I discovered this as soon as I upgraded to AE 7 quite some time ago. I do not know what the issue is, and have not found a solution. Using the AE present for HDV, identical to the sequence in FCP. When imported, it does not show a need to render, yet will not play back. If i recall, I was geting a dropped frame dialouge. It’s been awhile since I revisited the issue. I’ve been rendering to the animation codec and re-rendering in FCP.
I’ve had others verify the issue. Perhaps someone has come up with something since?

This will occur even with the talent closely mic’d, nevermind a shotgun.
Soundtrack Pro does a pretty decent job of removing background noise. Short version:Record ambient sound prior to the interview. Do a set noise pattern, then remove noise. Works pretty well. You may have to up the bass and play with the sliders a bit.

what are you exporting to? In other words, what is the drive you are exporting to formatted as? Are you running into a two gig limit? Is it HFS plus or formatted for windows?

I haven’t used either but there is also Instant HD (Red Giant) and Resizer (Digital Anarchy)

2) What “stream error issues”? Please elaborate.
I have no issues with Z1 footage. The only HDV issues I am relate to files rendered to the HDV codec in AE7
