  • Did you ever figure this out, Lance?

The DPX’s should have loaded into project window, then you can drag the image sequence onto the “New Comp” button to create a comp, then render that comp out into any format your heart desires…

Create your text layer — precompose it — to the precomp apply “cc cylinder”.
Adjust the radius of your text to be slightly bigger than your golf ball.. (you can make the radius greater than 100%)

Try setting the x rotation to 15 degrees then animate the y rotation (or use the expression “time *50” for example.
Make sure to set render to full (you can try front only but I think it cuts off too much)…

But if you set the render to full then, precompose that layer and mask off the text that should be “behind” the golf ball…

Andrew Kramer has a great tutorial on using colorama to pull a luma key — which is what I’m guessing you want to do… Though this tutorial is for sky replacement, the principles will work for your wedding gown…

This should take away your noisy edges…

July 2, 2009 at 11:45 pm in reply to: Particles – How To Use A Mask as an Emitter

You want to tell Particular to emit from a layer — in your case your masked lock that has been precomped:

This is from the help manual that you can find by going into particular effects window/ click on “options” then click on “help” at the bottom of the options window:

In Particular, set Emitter>Layer to your precomped “lock” layer. Notice that a new light named “LayerEmit [layername]” is created. This is a control light that Particular uses to keep track of the layer. It is locked and shy and it’s not supposed to be edited.

    Set Emitter>Emitter Size Z to 0 (zero).

Try a RAM preview to see particles emitted from the text. Notice that all particles are behind the layer. To fix this, move the Boom layer to the bottom of the TLW. Then set in Particular Visibility>Also Obscure with to “Layer Emitter”.

    Gotch ya’

Thanks Dan. Is there any way to copy/paste attributes in text layers — so I can copy all the formatting and paste it to the other layers?

    — I’d prefer not to have to duplicate the layers because they are three different color ramps…

    Here’s a SUPER-Silly workaround:

Make a 2nd copy of your footage using Fast blur with repeat edge pixels.
Put that layer below the lens blurred layer. Now the Fast blur layer will fill in in the areas of partial opacity…

    It’s a silly workaround but it “works” — I just tried it…

    btw,
Just to confirm Andy, AE CS3 lens blur does have repeat edge pixels…

    Hmmm….

Which version of After Effects are you using? I’m CS3 AE Version 8 (Mac OS X)… And it is the last checkbox in the effects window…

Can’t help you with the second question, but to get rid of the border problem click on the “repeat edge pixels”
