Thanks for your response. The footage was shot 24P over 60. I’m running FCP 5.0.4 — is it possible to remove the frames upon import in this version? I don’t see any options in the import window. Or if I set the Easy Setups to DVCPRO HD 23.98 will that do the trick?

The funny thing is, turns out after making the producers lose a lot of hair over this, the CONTENTS folders imported fine into FCP. It shouldn’t have worked, but it did. And also, funnily enough, the person who copied those first P2 cards insisted that there were no ‘LASTCLIP.TXT’ files to be seen…

I don’t understand this, but at least all the footage is there and useable. If Jan or anyone else wishes to chime in and the whys/hows, I’d be glad to hear it. But in the meantime, the order is strict to make sure that ALL files are copied from the partitions.

Many thanks for the info. Watched the tutorial, very helpful. One last question, I’m currently running FCP 5.0.4. Are there any issues with importing (say, files that run from one card to the next, duplicated frames etc.) with this version of software that I should be aware of? Seem to recall reading about some issues — wondering if I need to hurry up and upgrade to 5.1.1.

So if you are dumping P2 cards to a P2Store, with no laptop on set, how do you preserve the MXF files when copying from the P2 Store to the Mac?

Real world advice appreciated.

Okay, I may be losing my mind. Oh well. But I just exported AIFFs and re-imported them and they seem to be fine. Duration same. The only difference (and this is small) is that the T/C starts at zero, but it doesn’t matter as the files start at the 2-beep for synching purposes.

Hi Gary:

Thanks for your response. I thought the same as you did, and re-output the file making sure that the Kona 8-bit 23.98 presets were all selected. Thought I solved the problem, as when I re-imported the file, all was well. However, as soon as I changed the ‘Open With’ dialog in the ‘Get Info’ box and re-imported, the duration changed and synch was lost.

Can’t remember for sure, but I believe that was also true with the AIFF I tested. I’ll give it another go and see what happens. I’m starting to think it’s just a Quicktime oddity…

Thanks for your considered response. Yes, I have spoken to the facility doing the filmout and they confirmed that the lab will pull down/up? the audio to 24 fps to match the film print. I was just concerned that once the file was a Quicktime file, that Quicktime did not seem to support 23.976 and automatically changed the framerate/duration to 24fps.

But it sounds like Quicktime is smarter than I am, and that playing back at 24 fps will work just fine.

Hello:

I currently run AXP/Mojo and Kona 2/FCP on my Dual 2.7 G5. I cloned my main internal drive (which had all the FCP/Kona stuff on it) and then when I rebooted onto the second drive, I uninstalled all FCP/Kona files/drivers before installed AXP. It works like a charm. The AVID setup doesn’t ‘know’ the Kona card is installed because the drivers aren’t there. It just sees the Mojo via the firewire connection. When I boot back on my FCP drive, I leave the Mojo off, and voila — I’ve got FCP Studio/Kona 2!

I even discovered that I can put both OMFI and FCP Quicktime files on the same RAID array…just make a separate folder for the FCP media and make sure you point FCP to that folder. I routinely flip back and forth, as right now I’m editing AVID on one project and FCP on another. Works great.

I suspected as much just after I posted this question. I did give it a quick try, but I was wondering which setting (I believe there are 5 patterns to choose from) is correct to mimic a 3:2 pulldown?

Also, to clarify…

Ideally, I would like to add 2:3:2:3 pulldown. If I export the 24P sequence and bring a 24P Quicktime back into a 29.97 sequence, it seems to render it out in a 2:2:2:4 pattern (which is not very smooth for fast motion stuff).
