Thanks Dwaine. I already have a few days back but no response yet. Would you suggest I resend?

On another subject wanted to recommend Side by Side the movie. Davinci hardware-software feature prominently in interviews with Stefan Sonnenfeld (Collateral, 300, Alice in Wonderland), Jill Bogdanowicz (J.Edgar, Gran Torino, Ray), Tim Stipan (The Wrestler, Black Swan, Che) and also in a short segment involving Roger Deakins in the DI session for ‘O Brother Where Art Thou?’.

Thanks, it looks like a great value and bought directly via paypal.
I’m VERY curious however about the pricey speedLooks which are based on 3D LUTs and will probably pick up the clean package. Not sure if they all work with DSLR footage.

    Answering my own question 😉
    https://techblog.cineform.com/?p=2798

‘* note: Using a lower resolution LUT, does not impact the quality of the video it is being applied, the resolution of the LUT only impacts the accuracy of the larger full color cube it is modeling. I’ve seen a 8x8x8 bleach bypass, look as good as 64x64x64 equivalent, so 64^3 LUTs are often overkill.’

  • Error still occurs sporadically. Any round tripping xml experts care to chime in?

  • Think I found the answer. When conforming the xml back into Resolve, if you have any clips selected in the Media Pool (Media tab) it seems to ‘confuse’ Resolve. Deselect ALL clips first, THEN import the xml.

Must have been a bug.Updated to latest version and now works

  • Seems to be a problem with the way Resolve is interpreting the XML. I tried a sequence with just 1 clip. Same issue

My edits are maintained but it seems that Resolve is replacing all clips with whatever clip is left most (icon view) or top most (list view) in the Media Pool.

On import of XML I am de-selecting
‘Automatically import source clips into media pool’

since I am using low res proxys in PPro for editing.

But shouldn’t the clips should remap to their hi res counterparts?

Is this possibly a bug in handling XML? Local is the new global

  • Did you try exporting via dynamic link from PPro?

I usually ‘chunk’ my clips, 3 or 4 max, when dynamic linking to AE.

Also remember to make a copy of your layers in PPRo first BEFORE sending to AE.

I agree AE offers a lot of finesse not possible in PPRo alone, but the major drawback is the huge CPU drain that dynamic linking seems to cause.
A recent project completed entirely this way

However, for my next project I’m exploring exporting my final edit via xml and doing all my CC grading in Davinci Lite

  • in working on it, I realize I need a random – move hold -move hold, between two keyframes..not
a temporal as I am aiming for more realism and not stop motion..
