there are more but these are the main 3
-color grade and correct
-add additional soundtracks…and sync sound properly
-pan and scan…need to crop in more and control the ramping..iMovie has only rudimentary pan and scan

Thanks. Yeah, am seriously considering it. Too many un answered questions about the new FCP X. Any idea if Premiere 5.5 will run on a 32bit iMac? I know AE 5.5 does not 🙁

Thanks for the tip re transcoding. I’m well aware AE is not an editing application. But as I mentioned in my query, I cannot do everything I need to in iMovie.
And since I plan on purchasing and mastering AE anyways, why not do it now and make it work for editing just this short film…

yeah, and if its gonna sell for the same $ as 7, don’t want to have to shell out a single penny for the upgrade.
Just wonder’n if Apple normally has a ‘no upgrade fee if purchased in last 90 days’ or something similar policy…

I have one of those ‘old white imacs’, can’t justify upgrading until next year:(
You really have given me faith though that I will be able to get by with FCP on the smaller projects I plan on doing. My primary goal is to simply have fun and build my FCP chops.
And I doubt the Premiere would be a good investment for me given my limited hardware.
My primary bottleneck will be the Firewire400 …
You obviously invest in a lot of storage, and yes it is cheap, but I like to buy something that will last.
Lacie D2, 2TB…ok investment? Was looking at Glyph technologies, but twice the price for the same storage.
Regarding RAM, agreed, Apple makes big $ on opening the back of you Imac….not sure about replacing-upgrading SIMs myself but will search online.
Once brought my iMac in to the local Apple store to fix a stuck DVD drive and was charged $100 to be told it can’t be fixed…thanks!

My iMac specs are 2 Ghz Intel Core duo with 2GB RAM.
SHould I be confident FCP will run ok?

What type of external storage do you have?
Not sure if I should invest in a 2TB Lacie or Glyph Technolgies external drive…limited to Firewire 400…
