doing what you want to do is not easy in Premiere….this is how i do it. put your background on track 1. put your “fill” clip on track 2. put your matte “hole cutter” on track 3. nest track 2..your fill clip. make a copy of your “hole cutter”. open the nest and place the hole cutter on the layer above your clip. make the hole cutter 50% transparent. move your clip around using the 50% matte as your framing guide. when done with your clip movement make the 50% matte invisible. close your nest. on your main timeline touch on the nest but don’t open it. place “track matte Key” on the nest. click on Matte in track matte key and choose “video 3”. you’re done.
now repeat the same process for any other boxes you want on the screen.
if you have access to Final Cut 7 then it will be a breeze. if not then it will be a pain. i hope in the next release of Premiere they will allow you to have the ability to do a track-matte key without the track. just hoping.
i have the same problem. don’t have any idea why it happens. i have a dual boot system. FCP7 on boot 1 and Premiere on boot 2. the problem doesnt happen on FCP7. only on premiere.
Hopefully soon Adobe will give you the option to invoke a switch on TRACK MATTE KEY that will allow you to NOT TRACK. Then you can cut a hole and fill the hole and move the fill around to your hearts content. Until then it will always be a frustration and a consumer of valuable time.
to make my editing life easier I make the slate add 30 frames of black….mark in and set a duration for the length of the spot..then add black at the topmost layer after that duration….this makes me a window to edit within and I can let clips and text hang over and the black at the end covers that up. makes life easier.
ah-ha…move playhead to starting point….select playhead position timecode in upper left part of timeline..hit +1500 enter and ..dang why didn’t I know that…….
thank you for your help.
so I mark an in point on my timeline, say at 2 seconds, then hit plus on the key pad and enter 1500 (15 seconds) and nothing happens.
I’m on PP2014 v8.
