The CPC effect was slight and seemed to be in the wrong direction. I tried a bunch of different things.
How do I turn off a profile in the OS? It seems I’m forced to choose some profile. Mac OS Sierra.

Thanks Tero,
You’ve helped me in the past and I very much appreciate it.
At this point though, I want to hear what Walter recommends.
Too many cooks could really get in the way.
This is a very big deal for me. I hope you understand.
Thanks!

Walter,
You are the only thing between me an insanity. Having read various color threads on the internets, I know I am not alone!
OK, let me just back up for a moment. MonitorProfileI on my monitor is where all my stuff looks right.
But, MonitorProfile is screwy. First of all, the reds come out too orange. So on hollywoodreporter.com, the logo looks too orange.
But that’s not even the worst of it. When I look at my display profiles, there are a whole bunch. And the sRGB looks darker but still too orange. So now I don’t even know how to sail towards sRGB.
I need to somehow get my stuff to look right on most computers. I’m pretty sure that if I can tame the red, the rest will follow.
I have the calibration stuff. I calibrated last year. But even if I calibrated, how would we proceed? Do you see a path out?
Here’s the BIG problem. There are MANY projects/.movs.
I may call you in tears soon.
Thanks!

Hey Walter,
Thanks for showing up. I was wondering if you were around.
OK, I will try what you suggest and report back within the hour.
In the meantime, I wanted to put on the table two issues/questions:
1) In AE 2014, my .movs are sRGB and I can interpret them with all the different profiles, but nothing changes!
2) In AE 2015, my .movs are HDTV (Rec79) and I can’t even interpret them.
OK, off to try the effect!

You are correct. It gets read as sRGB by most computers, whatever. The problem is that it looks way too dark on most monitors. I need to somehow invert it. If you look at hollywoodreporter.com, you will see that their logo is a nice red. But my monitor, the one where this .mov was created, has hollywoodreporter.com’s logo looking very orange! I don’t need anything to be exact as this is very cartoonish. But I do need to somehow invert what I have.

Yeah, so a 2db gain at 10k does very little. It’s audible, but barely.

SO, for example, Convert to Working RBG AND Preserve Embedded Profiles both change c99fb8 to c89fb8
It would seem to me that everything is as RBG as it can get. Why should either of those change the hex??????

Those were my settings in AI. My working space for RGB in PS is sRGB IEC61966-2.1
What seems to fix things is when I turn off the color management policies for RGB in PS.
What I don’t understand is why the other two options give different results: preserve embedded profiles and convert to RGB.
Why does it change with those other options?????????
Thanks.

Thanks Dave for your response.
No, I’ve tried a lot of different things. Part of the problem is that I am/was trying to use the same settings across multiple projects despite different shape speeds.
Here’s a brief bio:
1) Never ever gave motion blur any thought despite having many many many opinions on many many things.
2) Within the last year or so, discovered that sometimes it doesn’t look good despite using the default settings.
3) Realized that frame rate plays a big role. I got stuck with 25fps long ago.
4) Realized that animators approach the issues with a more blase attitude (“experiment”, “see what you like”) than film purists (See the debates over some of the Tolkien movies).
5) I have a lot of stuff like this Italian TV thing and I don’t like it. And I think that the frame rate is what really bothers me.
6) I’ve actually been going with 360 open shutter more and more under the probably mistaken assumption that it is more like what things would look like if you saw the square post it notes on your table start moving around like this Italian TV bumper. (Is it still a matter of “personal taste” if your taste involves mistaken background beliefs??)
7) Can I just take a 25fps project and convert all compositions to 25fps assuming there is no 25fps footage in the project? Will extra divisions just appear in the timeline and all keyframes and layers remain where they are? Or will the world end?
