January 24, 2006 at 5:39 am in reply to: Help! – Putting PowerPoint-like presentation on DVDTom, thanks for your most kind reply. And helpful. I am grateful.
I’ve spent some time this evening reading up on the slideshow capabilties in DVD SP. I have figured out how to convert the original PowerPoint to stills. And then to add the pause with each still on the DVD.
What I can’t figure out (and maybe it is not possible) is how to add any transitions and still keep the pause aspect active. In other words, when I view the slide show — even if I have added a transtion — and then hit the arrow to jump to the next slide, I never get the transition. (I get the transtition if I just play it as a movie — but not when I want to go to the next slide using the advance button. Am I making sense?)
Maybe this is just one of those Apples and Oranges things. We either have to live with stills/slides — or make a movie.
Do you know any way to get transitions into the mix and still allow me to jump from one slide to the next as the client wants?
Thanks again for your kind reply.

A quick update!
First, a huge thanks for each of you who took time to offer ideas, suggestions, wisdom. Most appreciated.
Here is what I’ve done in my troubleshoooting process of elimination:
1. I had been trying to open this file in FCP 4.5. Always stalling out.
2. I opened it in FCP 5. Still had the same stalling out problem.
3. I begin to see if I could get any part of it to play on the timeline. So I began to close my audio tracks one at at time. This helped, but still did not completely solve the problem. (Although, when I turned ALL AUDIO off, the timeline seemed to play fine — the video was okay.)
4. Thinking that it might be more an audio issue than video, I began looking at my audio settings. I changed my rate from 48 to 44.1, just to experiement.
5. This seemed to work. Once I made this change, I could play the entire tiimeline in FCP 5. (When I did the same thing in FCP 4.5, I still had problems.)
6. Moving to FCP 5 caused me to loose a couple of filters that I originally had in the project. So will need to resolve that. And of course, had to do more rendering. But as of now, it seems to be playing quite nicely in FCP 5 with audio at 44.1.MY NEW QUESTION:
Why am I getting play in 44.1 and not in 48? I have always used 48 in the past. So why is it allowing me to play the timeline set at 44.1 and not 48? Do I have some other setting goofed up that would cause this to happen?Again, in FCP 5, the video played fine when audio was turned off. This was true with both audio settings 48 and 44.1.
What are the issues I need to look at on this?
Thanks again.

September 20, 2005 at 8:01 pm in reply to: Audio Sample Rate Problem: Matching captured media with source tapeThanks, Matte. I’m using a Sony Deck for capture. So I’m not using the same for both shooting and capture.
I will try your suggestion to test.
Thankfully, there seem to be no actual problems with sync. So it is just this pesky error message to resolve.

John, I’ve not had any big renders recently. But will probably have some in the next couple weeks. I will try to let you know at that time. Thanks, Jerry

I’m getting a slightly different “out of memory” error in FCP.
I seem to only get the error when I’m rendering. Rendering seems to go fine for awhile. (I have several projects I’m rendering — so total render time is several hours.)
After one or two hours of rendering, I get the out of memory error message. And have to restart. (There has been a couple times when FCP has shut down — I left it on to render overnight, but then come in the morning and find FCP has shut down, with very little rendering done.)
***But my main concern right now is to resolve this “out of memory” error message.***
I’m on a G5 2.5 Ghz, with 2.5 gig of RAM. Using FCP HD 4.5. OS 10.3.9.
The longest project I’m rendering is around 20 minutes.
On previous systems, I’ve had less memory without this problem. So what gives??!!
