Thanks, Mike. Very kind of you. Yes, I am quickly learning that I have to let go – divorce myself – from 7. It is history. A great ride while it lasted. Just another reminder that learning never ends. ☺

    Appreciate your advise and encouragement.

Thanks, Kannan. Very kind of you. And encouraging. As you already know, it is a little like letting go of one acrobatic rope before grasping the other! ☺ I have been putting this off for some time – just too comfortable and happy with FCP 7 for most of my projects. But growth never stops – and neither can I.

I am going through some of the Ripple video right now. I agree – very helpful. I will also check out Izzy’s.

As you allude to, the biggest challenge is letting go of all my habits and learning new ones. So wish me luck. (Part of the challenge is that I am just starting a couple of new projects, so feeling that pressure. But it is also a motivating force.)

    Thanks again, Jerry

March 21, 2017 at 11:45 pm in reply to: Timecode issues from camera to edit timeline

Thanks, Blaise. Most kind of you. I have now learned how to keep the timecode when importing into FCP 7 (using the Log and Transfer tool). Works quite well, once I figured it out.

This may just be my own ignorance. But is there a way to hold the original timecode on my timeline? (I can see it fine in the Viewer. But once I drop the clip onto the timeline, I lose the original code.)

Finally, if you’ve had any experience with FCP X, what is the equivalent steps to hold original timecode on import?

    Thanks again.

Every time I attempt Modify > Merge Clips (with clips selected) the merge is gray. Not available. What am I doing wrong??

September 15, 2015 at 8:07 am in reply to: Livetype replacement?

Thanks, David. I’m pretty sure my FCPS 3 is long gone. But I will search. If my understanding is correct, the last FCP that included LiveType was version 6, correct?

March 6, 2015 at 9:33 pm in reply to: Clip format problem

    Thanks, Dave. Kind of you.
    – Final out put will be DVD
    – Trying to get everything compatible with the following:
    – HDV 1080 p24
    – Frame: 1440 x 1080
    – Pixel aspect: HD Anamorphic 1080

But for some reason, a couple of the clips ended up on the timeline larger and slightly distorted. (Again, I brought them in all from same camera and made no changes in settings. So a bit of a mystery.)

I had already started editing before I realized the problem. If there is anyway to fix this (either via sequence and/or clips).

May 29, 2010 at 12:43 am in reply to: Settings for Capturing Tape From Africa?

Thanks much, Phil and David. Appreciate your info. David, are you referring to a setting on the camera itself – or a setting within FCP? Still trying to get this resolved. Jerry

I’ve been trying various settings (both PAL and NTSC) but so far, none have worked.

I have also tried some test captures (even though preview is disabled). That does not work either. FCP cannot find any video to capture when I try those tests.

    Would value your ideas/help soon.
