Using any media that isn’t ProRes? LIke stills, or other computer generated files? Could be the plugins. Might try a section sans the 3rd party plugin filters. If you can render when they aren’t present, try reinstalling them or updating them from the manufacturer’s site. Sure sounds like a filter corruption or some such…

What is the duration of all 8 movies, and what is the content of them? i.e., instructional not much movement stuff or fast action etc?

Leave it all native. Let their hardware do the up conversion. It’s likely better than what you can do in software… SD with a Kona 3 through a strong projector looks pretty good IMHO. Better than a render any day.

I’ll bet this started when a certain trainer claimed he knew that Apple had ported FCP 7 to a 64 bit version then scrapped it. Nonsense.

What format(s) are the video and audio source files, and what are your sequence settings?
Are there files that are MP3 or h.264 or images from other computer programs involved? If so list those too.
You likely have a media file problem going on there…

Try 4:2:2 instead. About the only situation where you’ll see a difference in the picture quality of your shoot in HQ is if there is a lot of fast movement from frame to frame… sports for example. Otherwise it would look exactly the same and you only gain file size.
ProRes LT is a good option for most jobs quite frankly. It’s broadcast quality, but not good for material with a lot of detail in it like outdoor shots of pine trees and grass etc…

OK…. so then if this is happening (I’ve not seen it yet myself) then how do you know when it’s happening?
Is it only AFTER you’ve made changes for a day, then quit only to come in the next day to find out that you’ve lost a day? yikes…
