Capturing Z1 HDV footage in FCP 7
When capturing Z1 HDV footage in FCP 7 my system keeps crashing. I’m digitising using Apple Pro Res 422 HQ. The files are huge and the system can’t seem to cope. What settings should I be using? I’m trying to deliver on HD Blu Ray.

Try 4:2:2 instead. About the only situation where you’ll see a difference in the picture quality of your shoot in HQ is if there is a lot of fast movement from frame to frame… sports for example. Otherwise it would look exactly the same and you only gain file size.
ProRes LT is a good option for most jobs quite frankly. It’s broadcast quality, but not good for material with a lot of detail in it like outdoor shots of pine trees and grass etc…
