You may not have a problem actually. Does the 24p material have a pulldown or did you remove it? If it’s still there, you really have everything at 29.97.

You need a video i/o or just “o” device to use your external video monitor. AJA, Matrox, Blackmagic all make them for FCP.

Drives die more often than LTO tapes go bad I’d think. In the long run, it’s less expensive to back up on LTO tapes (the manufacturers say they’ll live 50 years I think). They are likely the best solution at the moment, but I’m afraid nothing is fool proof.

How much footage do you need to back up, and for how long?

You might look very seriously at a refurb or other used machine. I’d look at a 1-2 year old tower especially if you want to get serious with expansion and capabilities. Computer displays can be had used too. You might end up with more power, and get expansion capabilities. You’re really tied down with a laptop other than a 17″ and any iMac is great for home movies or as a secondary edit station etc.. depends on how much speed you’ll need for the format you acquire and deliver.
Will an iMac run the current software? Yep. That’s not the issue, expandability and capability is. Speed… The software is likely to be upgraded next year sometime I’d guess, and that will be the second gen intel only version of Studio… so you need an intel machine to upgrade yourself.

You’re experience isn’t the norm… but if the self contained ProRes version of the sequence is OK, the compression for delivery should also work OK.

You can save the project file to the same drive the copies are on so you can move it.
My guess is that when you used media manager last time, you didn’t select ALL in the browser first… so it copied all that you selected, but not all in the project file. That would result in what you’re experiencing now most likely.
It might be good to find those errant files to make sure you’re copying them. They are on that machine somewhere. Before you move the drive after the copies and new project file are made, check the project file you’ve created. It should open immediately after media manager has done it’s thing.
