James- Does the video play on the DV walkman without dropping frames?

This doesn’t sound like a deck issue. Dropping frames is usually a drive issue. Make sure your system drive is not set as your scratch drive.

For setting scratch drive read FCP Manual Volume 1 pg. 207 Setting Scratch Disk

Then read this; FCP Manual Volume 1 pg. 161: Connecting DV Video Equip

Joe- You don’t need a converter. The LH has composite/YC in and out. Consult the manual on which BNC’s to use.

Carlos- Good, you made it over the render stumbling block. You have a codec mismatch between your clips and your timeline. FCP is extremely codec sensitive. Easy setups are your friend. As soon as you launch FCP trash the sequence that is in the browser. Go to easy setups and select the codec you want to digitize AND edit in. Now everything you digitize and edit in your new sequences will match and you wont need to render.

Carlos- Try Command (apple) A to select everything in the timeline then Command R- Render. If that doesn’t work leave everything selected and go to Sequence menu and try Render Selection>Video. If that doesn’t work try Render All>video. One of those things should throw it into render mode.

Wayne- tools>keyboard shortcuts>customize>type in the specific name>drag the shortcut to the keystroke you want (I used Z for zoom in, x for zoom out, and s for scroll to playhead).

Jason- I think your problem is in the Z-1 in/out menu. Plug the Z-1 component cable directly into an HD monitor and tweak the menu settings ’till you get a picture. Once the Z-1 is putting out component HD reconnect the cable to the LHe and select the proper settings. I know for SD component the iLink down-convert needs to be ON.

Przemek- I would edit HDV… export self-contained HDV movie and take to duplication house for HD Cam or DVCProHD dub. The dub house would need to have FCP with SDI video card and, of course, the video decks.
