Jumping in on this as well. I’ve been looking at a 4000 to replace my Radeon 5870 and trying to squeeze any last ounce of performance out of my mid 2010 Pro. Ive heard alot of good things about the 680.

I haven’t had too much time to try it out but like my counterpart said I have found it pretty approachable. I’ve never used nodes before but found it pretty easy to get the basics. I’m looking forward to getting into it alot more. There are just 2 lingering issues for me and I hope Autodesk has them cooking quietly.. one of course is the card issue. I really want to move to Resolve for CC but the i/o card war is ridiculous. And of course the elephant in the room… are they looking at a PC version. This is huge as Apple made it pretty clear a couple weeks ago our workstations are done. We’re looking to future proof and Apple has left us guessing after they killed our X-Serves. Although I hate to say it….PC compatibility will be a must.

September 23, 2010 at 9:26 pm in reply to: Issues after updating to 7.0.3

    Hi Guys
Thanks for the replies…meant to reply yesterday but forgot my password and the reminder got hung up in our spam catcher…

My usual setup is DVCPro HD, sequence settings of DVCProHD 720p60 Audio 48khz 24bit. Footage is HVX200 DVCProHD 720x24pN.

So I trashed my preferences and also reinstalled my Aja drivers. As I was about to reboot I tried to think back through any system changes I may have done recently just to rule out anything else. I then remembered turning on my old Huge Systems 750gb raid (via atto SCSI) that had been sitting for ages powered down and collecting dust. The other day I was looking for some long lost footage and thought it might be on that, so I started it up. I can’t be for certain that I started that up the same time I ran into the audio issues but I have a nagging suspicion that may have been why it was shut down for so long (i just forgot about it hah)

Long story short…on reboot everything is ok….so far. Was it the SCSI/Huge flaking (not sure) Aja Drivers (not sure) or FCP update (again shrugging). I wish I could nail it down but as my deadlines loom I’m just happy it’s running again.

Sorry for kind of wasting yall’s time on this….it seems like it could have been any one of those three but I’m no closer to figuring our exactly what it was. I really appreciate the time tho you took for the replies! If I ever nail it down I’ll update this post just in case someone else has a similar problem.

    Thanks again!

Bummer. I understand about accidentally leaving on tho cause that would probably be a bone headed move I would pull.

    Thanks for the reply!

February 12, 2009 at 5:00 pm in reply to: HVX 200 @ 1080p30 and FCP Help

    Hi Michael
Thanks for the quick reply! I can get that all set up using the 1080p30 easy setup and it looks great, plays back real time…but I still run into the orange “unlimited” playback and the need to render before I do anything else with it. Hrm…I may have answered my own question. I guess maybe with my mac being a bit older I can’t have everything but it’s still weird to me that I have to render to ensure smooth playback. Any other hd rez footage I don’t run into this problem.

Yup…I just read some more, you are correct.

I was pretty foul this morning after a terrible shoot when I ranted but it still upsets me a bit that I’m stuck with compatibility. I feel as though I’m FORCED to buy the new version. Yes I have purchased the old one and used it heavily but when I just updated my Zaxwerks to Intel compatibility for free….I may/may not need the “upgrade”……I guess it’s all about choice. It just feels like Red Giant is trying to squeeze some money out of us because they know we pretty much have to have the “upgrade” to work on Intel macs….which a majority of people will be owing in the near future.

Again, sorry to get pissy, I love Trapcode and what Peder has done but the updates used to be free.

I really hope I’m reading this wrong…..to update compatibility to my intel mac and cs3 I have to repurchase?? If that’s the case that’s pretty shiesty. I know it’s not much but with all the nickle and diming I’ve seen lately this is just enough to tweak me the wrong way. They know everyone relies heavily on their plug-ins so now we’re stuck with compatibility….Peder I’m sorry if I read this wrong but it leaves a bad taste……

July 13, 2007 at 8:20 pm in reply to: ProAnimator / Invigorator and AE CS3

I just installed the update on my quad 3ghz mac pro with CS3….WOW! Unreal performance boost from AE7 on my quad Power Mac. A 2 second moving title rendered in 35secs on the AE7/Power Mac and 5secs on the CS3/macPro combo. I can’t wait to use Zax now after literally pulling out my hair for years on slower machines.

    Awesome!!

June 27, 2007 at 4:04 pm in reply to: Dell 2707wfp good for Motion Graphics?

    I think you’ll dig it.
I’ve got a 2405fpw and it’s great…especially for FCP work. The extra landscape is great. I’ve also got a 17″ sitting next to it for my bins etc so just my canvas/viewer and timeline are on my 24.

Kinda on a side note….Anyone have any good window layouts for AE? I’m still trying to get a comfortable one on the dual monitors and widescreen but I haven’t found anything yet. Didn’t mean to hijack the thread…email me if you like 🙂

April 17, 2007 at 9:27 pm in reply to: Apple’s Color, my thoughts

Hiya Walter and everyone reading/responding to this….

I fall into line with just about everyone’s thoughts. I see your points Walter but I also think that over time people will realize the talented ones and not the people who just grab a preset and call themselves a colorist.

Personally I think it’s both good and bad. Good because it gives folks the opportunity (me for one) to get their hands on some high end tools when they wouldn’t have been able to before. BUT I see the bad. This I guess agrees with what you were saying. When Final Cut came out and everyone and their dog had a dvx100 there was alot of crap that got produced and labeled “professional.” I see what some folks do and I have to cringe. The problem though I feel is more in the general public’s acceptance of said crap as good work. I lose track of how much makes it to the airwaves each day. Expectations these days are so incredibly low….To me being in the middle, neither the top end but still no slouch, is the most difficult.

I have to admit, when I first saw the video explaining Color I almost fell out of my chair. I would NEVER get the chance to work on a high end system like that. But not because I don’t want to. It’s just amazingly difficult to get started and still put food on the table. But with color I get to now explore an area I really really like. Part for my own curiousness and part for my own resume and toolset. But overall this has always been something I’ve wanted to try…Will I be any good? Who knows but at least now I get to try 🙂

Well, there’s my 2cents. Maybe I shouldn’t have had that 4th cup of coffee.

    Best wishes
    Jeremy
