September 16, 2006 at 10:00 am in reply to: Stabilize Helicopter pictures in HD – Which plugin is the best?Is the optical stabilizer in Red 4 really better then the smooth cam node in Shake? I’m curious, because the smooth cam node is amazing. I guess I’ll have to demo the new version, Boris Red is a great product.

JeremyG “Don’t forget upconvert!!! ”
The LHe does not do upconversion, only downconversion. If you want upconvert, you have to go with the Kona3. Needless to say, go with AJA, rock solid products and amazing tech support. If you have any problem, they take care of you quick, fast and professionally. Just my 2 cents.

Yes, we’ve done a good amount of 24p to 25p as well as 25p to 24p. What are you trying to do. A little more info would be good, in order for us to help you.

[Walter Biscardi]”More like $300 or so per hour around here in Atlanta.”
Walter, that may be true in Atlanta, but Claudio is Europe and I have been personally quoted the amount that I stated above from a post-house in Europe. Granted it was about a year ago, so I would hope that prices have come down since then, but Teranex systems are a lot harder to find in Europe then they are in the states.

Claudio,
Get the Natress standards conversion plugin. We have done this with 1080 HD material and it works beautifully. If you can recaputre your material as uncompressed and do the conversions that way, you will be better off, but it does work well with DVCPro 100 as well. Just let us know if you need a step by step process of how to do it. It can be done in compressor, but the renders take 40 times longer (this is not an exageration) than the Natress plugin, if you want a good quality conversion. Know if money is not a problem, then the best way to convert the material is with a Teranex system, but this will run you close to $1000 an hour.

No problem. In fact when you hit conform 25 to 24, there are no extra frames that are created or taken away. Cinema tools simply slows down the footage 4.1% so it plays at 24fps. So you will notice that the length of the file will be longer then the original. When you conform back from 24 to 25 it is simply speeding it back up. The image is not touched, it’s just a matter of it’s playback speed.

You should be able to use Cinema Tools to conform the quicktime back to 24.

June 29, 2006 at 12:32 pm in reply to: 23.98 HD to PAL Beta-SP downconversion via K2?Steve,
Use Cinema tools to conform 23.98 to 25 and then output and you should be fine. If you are worried about the speed up, you could use the Nattress standards conversion plug-in to go to 25 and you would only have a .1% speed change compared to a 4.1% change, however this process is going to take much longer depending on the length of your show. Hope this helps.

We’ve been playing around with it for the last hour on our Kona 3 and all I can say is awesome! These are some very impressive upgrades to the card. We are even getting more real-time effects in uncompressed HD.

June 1, 2006 at 7:53 am in reply to: FCP vs Symphony Nitris for HD fininshing and color correction“There are a couple of plug-ins for FCP that will get you pretty close to Avids CC, and worl well but they are fairly expensive.”
When compared to the price of a Symphony, these plugins are not that expensive. You can get the plugin version of colorfinesse for under $600 and that will give you Symphony style CC and more inside of FCP. For the price point, colorfinesse is a fantastic CC tool. And if you need more advanced masking options, then pick up Boris FX or Red. Then you have some very powerful tools for CC right inside of FCP and all for a fraction of the price of a Symphony.
