Quit FCPX, hold down option-command and launch FCPX.

Or try moving the left one over a little bit, and then selecting the shelves.

It’s possible. I’d suggest zooming in a little, or adjusting the size of the clips.
Also, a preferences trash won’t hurt, either.

It looks like, it, but look at how the clip and the transitions are selected in that one, and not in the one on the left.
Maybe try zoom in a little before you select.

Looks like you are selecting the clips within the right secondary as well as the secondary itself. You need to select just the shelf and not the clips (and transitions).
I hope Apple fixes the way this works because it can be rather annoying.

I’m not exactly sure and I am probably wrong about this, but at some point, FCPX changes that clip in to a synchronized clip in a Project, so maybe that’s what was happening.

You can not add effects to a clip at the component level.
You have selected the clip in the Browser, then choose “Open Clip” which basically shows you all the components that a clip is made of. This isn’t good practice in FCPX.
You can put the clip on a timeline, and add effects there, but trying to add effects to the component level won’t work.
In my opinion there’s no reason to “open clip” to get to the clip components from the browser or timeline.
You can Expand audio components from the timeline (which is different form what you’re doing), that allows you to add effects to each component.

What effects do you need?
Maybe there’s a way to do this is FCPX or publish motion effects to FCPX?

But is it a stereo mic, or two discrete channels?
Is this on camera audio or separate?
Did you trim the audio in X2Pro or are you referencing existing media?
