Exporting via Compressor is great, but my point is that I can’t get FCP to USE something that was rendered 8-bit. It now has to up-convert to 10-bit, which takes forever and is unnecessary.

That’s what is weird though, is that I can import 8but UC and it’s fine, which makes me wonder what codec it really is. Do you have a small sample of the footage that you can upload?

    Maybe you mean 10-bit?

8 & 10bit bit is still available in Compressor(see attached), and 10 bit is available in Final Cut (also attached) so if you ned 8bit, you can export via FCPX via a Compressor setting (attached).

    12bit. Do you mean ProRes?

8 bit should work, but it might have to be Apple’s 8 bit codec. What codec is it, exactly?

Got ya. Do other codecs work? If you open an 8bit file in QT does it attempt to convert it?

Does FCPX attempt to convert it? You should get warnings about it.

Do you need that codec specifically?

    What system update was it?

    Codec update too?

5x what, indeed. Again, I’m not saying what Apple has done here is easy, I just don’t understand how they could be first to 5x performance, saving 5x the wattage. I do see why NVIDIA is set to pay $40B for ARM though, if the performance gains are that dramatic.

I still maintain intel is a safer buy today. Seems odd to recommend a new OS and new processing technology to a professional, especially since Apple themselves have announced a multi-year transition period, and still sells intel machines. I feel if the shoe was on the other foot, and this was some sort of Windows transition, the suggestion might be different to the friend.

Seriously though, what does this even mean and how is this possible? Why didn’t intel lead this charge already?

“As stated by Blackmagic: “Significantly, the combination of M1, Metal processing, and DaVinci Resolve 17.1 offers up to 5 times better performance when compared to previous generation computers”.”

You can select all the Projects, and write the Tag and it will update all of them.

V11.7 supports Big Sur. I’d suggest downloading and installing those after uninstalling 11.6.
