The only “GOOD/FREE” program I’ve EVER seen that’s even worth playing with on any level is Blender3d (which is available on all platforms).
Other than that, you’ll most likely have to pay for video software. I’m no mac guru though, there might be some sites out there offering such things, try google..
As for AE – the only framerate issues I’ve had is when I’ve changed the rate of the footage and interpreted as something else, which in that case was entirely my own fault because I didn’t know wtf I was doing at the time…
Give AE another try.. maybe hit up some tutorials Mr. Kramer on VCP does have a wonderful set of tutorials on there, and this site also has several very informative ones as well.. might just need to sit down with it and show it who’s boss 😉
Good luck, I hope this has helped a little.

Ron,
Very true, at the same time it’s one of the VERY few articles that I found (at least in English..)
So – in my case I’ve always found outdated information is a lot better to have than none at all… this might still point someone in the right direction, or at least I hope so..

Alright I haven’t read this through completely yet, but it does talk about cross platform rendering…

I cant remember the details about hybrid networks.. apparently certain versions of the mac aeFX don’t mix at all in a renderfarm situation, but I’m not entirely positive..
I’ll try to find the tutorial I saw on it – maybe that’ll shed some light for ya.
As for me – yeah I don’t even know where the CD is, much less if it’s even on there…
None of the regulars have (unfortunately) posted. So basically we’re still in the dark lol..

Something like this?
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oQxhLvgWDQw
That was created with cc particle world and trapcode shine.
The actual fire took about 2 min, and the rest about 10 (couldn’t remember my mask setup hehe)

Leith,
I’m a noob to this stuff too – but I’ll try and help.
I’m hoping you have access to Adobe’s Encore? You’re gonna need that or another DVD authoring program to publish the files to DVD disk.
I suggest Encore because I’ve used it and I know it works..
Theres a few Encore and After Effects tutorials out there that you’ll want to watch (a lot here and some on youtube etc).
You’re also going to need to go through some basic afterFX tutorials so I hope your deadline is somewhat forgiving..

Look in the Tutorials tab and the Presets tab (some mini tutorials in here)Also this the cow has a great many tutorials. One of my favorite posters is Aharon Rabinowitz https://leaders.creativecow.net/leaders/rabinowitz_aharon/
Between Aharon and Andrew I’ve taught myself a fair amount of stuff over the last year – but I didn’t have a specific thing to learn so I just watched everything.
Good Luck man, let me know if theres anything else I can try to help with.

I would need more details.. but you could take trapcode particular (if you have it) and lengthen the particles in z space with a linear keyframe setup at a 45* angle __/–
that might do the trick .. but I don’t know for sure..
Hope this helps somehow..

Thanks for reminding me about this.. messed with my cache settings as well and got the 2nd core up and running 🙂
a heavy 3d layer animation which usually took 7.5 minutes took me about 4.25
VERY happy with the results 🙂

two words for the main parts…. “TRAPCODE SHINE”
as for the mist – I’m still trying to learn that myself..
Shine should take care of most of the lighting effects there tho…

Could just precomp the 3 text layers and apply corner pin to it and set the 4 corners with the crosshair thingie in it… no motion tracking required since the billboard isnt moving..
since its just static I don’t see why that wouldn’t work – apply all your effects and annimations for the text inside the precomp.. that SHOULD work..
