[Bob Zelin] “k, now for the question that 99% of the people really care about. The Kona 3G is $1995 retail. Is there any reason to buy the more expensive AJA Kona 3 anymore ?”

If you go by the product list on the AJA website, the Kona 3G looks to be a replacement of the Kona 3.

Based on that, I’d say the answer to your question is no.

  • That background is a stock animation in Livetype. If you have an earlier version of FCP that came with Livetype than you have that lower third already.

We used google maps for several different shows a while back. Licensing is not free. There was the purchase fee and then a per use fee. Maybe your use won’t be as much as ours was for broadcast programming, but it certainly won’t be free.

[Bob Zelin] “Jeremy wrote – “we use ftp”. I hate that answer – exactly what does that mean ? What program are you using? Do you have an in house FTP server”

We have an internal FTP server. I personally access it via cyber duck, but it can be accessed via any ftp client or web browser using the proper user name and password.

I’ll start by saying we send out roughly 6 shows weekly to various stations and lots of spots. Between our offices in various states we use FTP. To the stations we air on in the states we send tapes. We also air in Canada and to that network we load up a hard drive and dump all of that weeks programming in Pro Res HQ. It saves on shipping costs and has no problems with customs.

I’m not sure of all the advantages or disadvantages are, but the big advantage I do see is, if you go internal you’ll be running on a SATA interface so your RAID 0 will be much faster than if you configure it via firewire. And if you’re running RAID 0 I’m assuming you’re going for speed especially if you’ll be backing up to a 2TB drive.

[Jeremy Garchow] “How big are your Pics?”

1920×1080 with alpha. I make them this size instead of 1440×1080 because I usually drop the final edit into a pro res timeline

[Jeremy Garchow] “XDcam is XDcam transfered from Sony software?”

    Yes it is.

It’s not a new project. It’s been worked on for a few days now. This message just came up today when FCP was started. I just hit the ok button and everything loaded fine and has been fine. I just have no idea what a “handler” is.

It’s just a regular old XDCAM project with a couple pict files for graphics.

8-core 3.0, 8 gig of ram, xt 1900, 4g fibre storage for the computer.

I found the work around for me was to send the file to motion. When the dialogue box comes on just uncheck the launch motion button. You never even have to go into motion for this to work. Than FCP recognizes the file as a motion project and the slow motion works the way its suppose to.

It’s a fields issue in FCP that motion does properly.
