So what kind of clearance do I tell the radio station the need to get?

After watching a few more I realized they aren’t actually using the music, but the music videos. Are they being used under “fair use” such as a snippet from a movie for a movie review?

Furthermore, it not only used our footage, but used our paid professional actor’s performance. These commercials were both airing tons of times each day… and that particular actor even ended up calling us with the “Hey, is this legal? Do they have to pay me?” questions.
Maybe it’s not truly legal… and maybe we could have sought some kind of injunction against its use… but the wheels of justice grind so slowly it would have likely been a moot point since the election was only a couple of days away.
I have to say that I myself have done this too for political spots, usually using an opponent’s commercial usually to refute an attack… but I’ve only used candidate footage, I’ve never used footage of an actor’s performance.
Legal, I dunno… “
I think you should take it to court just so I can find out the answer without incurring any of the costs…
Seriously though, it would be interesting to know. -

His credit at the end was creative commons. When the owners of the photos put them there, they gave permission for them to be used by anyone.
It’s much like going to freemusicarchive.com, The artists list the ways their music can be reproduced.
I think there’s always going to be a catch 22. On one hand you have the people who just want to get their work out there and get known and they’re willing to give it away for free for the recognition. Then once they have some sort of following they want to get paid for it, but they’ve been giving it away for so long that everyone expects it to be free.
I think it comes down to the same discussion as “how much am I worth?”.

[Shane Ross] “Really? Not even the Canon 5D and 7D that everyone seems to be using? Those use SD cards. “
Hate to break it to you, but those both use compact flash cards where the T2i uses SD cards.
-
[Florian Gintenreiter] “Honestly: who is using SD cards? Not one professional DSLR or videocamera uses SD cards. “
Lots of people using adaptors for their ex1 and ex3’s. So many in fact that Sony is actually making their own adaptor for SD cards. The Sony NXCAM line of cameras. The JVC line of camera’s utilizing the EX codec use SD cards. The panasonic HMC-150 uses SD cards. The new Canon T2i DSLR uses SD cards and is quite a bit cheaper than the 7d for the same video quality.
I’m sure that’s not an exhaustive list and you can argue those aren’t pro cameras is if you feel like it. But that would just be trying to tell a multitude of people that they aren’t pros because of the equipment they use.

May 10, 2010 at 2:54 pm in reply to: Must Accept Stutters??? Does this happen to you? Try this simple test…If it’s only going to be displayed on a computer monitor you’ll want to de-interlace for play back. For what its worth your files are interlaced and optimized for broadcast monitor playback.
Matt explained the science behind it already.

I’m guessing most FCP user are in the same boat as I am. I edit in FCP, but use AE and Photoshop daily. Because of this I have both the FCS and Adobe Production Suite on my machine. I’ll be making the upgrade to CS5. By default I’ll be getting PPro. My thought is that there are thousands of people that have PPro already installed and just never use it. Now with the mercury engine, it might be a time to give it a try. Heck, it is even supported by the Kona 3 in my box.
If you don’t like it you can go back to FCP. What’s it going to hurt to try it. I’ll have a full copy of PPro on my machine regardless. Doubt I’ll use it as FCP is kinda the standard, but it will be there to play with if I get an itch.

[Don Greening] “outputs an uncompressed 4:2:2 stream at a substantially higher bit rate. I have no idea what that number is. “
uncompressed 4:2:2 HD out of SDI is 1.5Gbit/s and that is why you need dual link to get to 4:4:4 color space.
HDCAM SR is the closest you can get to uncompressed at 880 Mbit/s
At least this is what I was told at a sony seminar last week.
