Also wanted to mention I’m using Optical Flares 1.2.134, and AE 10.0.2.4 so I should have the latest releases of both. Another interesting sidenote is that I just tried to render only the solids with OF applied and it started to render but the estimated render time was 12 hours. I can’t afford to wait that long for this project, especially when I’m not 100% confident that the render will complete.
The inconsistency is what bugs me the most. The current comp I’m trying to render is really not that complex. I have 3 solids with OF applied, tracking 3 different lights, and it won’t render. However, I rendered a pre-comp last week that contained about 100 lights in the “Wall of Lights” style from the OF tutorials, and it rendered in a reasonable amount of time.

I guess I’m the latest victim of this problem. I’ve been working on a project for a few weeks and I’m starting to get the output module failure error. I am mostly trying to render Pro Res 422, but I get the error with just about any format that I’ve tried.
I am using VC Optical Flares as well as VC Reflect in some comps. After reading through this thread, I turned off all Optical Flares and was able to render the complete :30 main Comp. But here’s the weird part. This project has several pre-comps. Over the course of the project I have pre-rendered several of these nested comps just fine. And some of the pre-comps contain VC Optical Flares + VC Reflect layers. So the inconsistency of the render errors is really starting to boggle my mind.
Some of the comments on VC’s Optical Flares page mention these errors as well, but no response or solution was offered there.
It seems logical to think this is a VC Optical Flares problem, but other people had similar issues with RSMB, so that makes me think it could be an issue with AE/QT as Todd mentioned.
I’m just curious if there have been any revelations or new solutions to this problem. Of course I don’t HAVE to have the Optical Flares in the project, but my boss likes them and he doesn’t care to understand these technical issues, especially when I was able to render pre-comps that contain Optical Flares.
Any Help??

I’ve recently had a similar issue. When I start an audio preview, it will play back faster and higher pitched. But if I stop it and start the preview again it will sound fine. I don’t have an answer for you, just wanted you to know you’re not the only one!

And if you’re using footage in this template, what format is the footage?

You may be able to get the arrangement by using a layer grid as the emitter.

Adding to the previous replies, you may benefit from a lesson in keyframe interpolation.
This is all about interpolation in After Effects:

Hope this helps..

Thanks for that Zane, works perfect now. I just recently started shooting RAW, so I had never updated the RAW compatibility before. I should have thought about that.

Just a suggestion, you should check Walter’s response as the solution so other people can find it quickly if they have the same issue.

My best guess is plan, plan, plan.. and then plan some more!
I’m sure it started with a few storyboards, and before shooting, they may have had the data overlay on the monitor for reference so they could direct him on where to make the gestures. I would also take a hint from them as far as editing. This would be really difficult to achieve in one take unless the actor was just perfect. So you can see they use the tight shots to break up the performance and probably cut around bad motions or tongue slips.
The tight shots present another small challenge in keeping the data looking relatively the same size and position vs. the wide shots. Not a huge deal, just make sure you create the data large enough in the first place to zoom in on..
Hope this helps some.
