There are a couple of ribbon tutorials out there, and at least one on the cow by Ahoron Rabinowitz. I imagine you can use Align to Spline or the Spline Effector to animate it..

You’re halfway there if you’ve already keyed out the actor. Now all you need to do is put that layer on top of the video you want to show through the body. On the video layer, set it’s TrkMat (track matte) to Alpha Matte. You should see this option to the right of the layer name. If you don’t see it, you might need to click the Toggles Switches/Mode button at the bottom of the timeline, or simply press F4 on the keyboard.

I think he’s saying he lost view of his objects. Like maybe he zoomed out too far or something.

If you select your objects in the object manager, you can press O,S, or H to frame them up in the viewport. Hope this helps.

You should be able to use a plain effector set for position for that. Just depends on how you want the blocks to move out..

This is more of a workaround. I’m not sure if you can rotate the top view, but you could add a camera, go to your top view and set the projection of the linked camera to perspective. Then rotate your camera to -90,-90,0.

Does that give you what you need?

You sir, are the man! I think that’s about the only option I didn’t try.. For some reason I just didn’t think it would make that difference, but it did.

Can I just hire you to answer all my C4D questions? Thanks for your time and sharing your knowledge. One day I hope to learn this program well enough to help others like you do.

There are different plugins that come with C4D depending on which version of AE you have. You have to install them yourself.

So did you install the exchange plug-in, and which version of AE do you have?

January 16, 2010 at 7:00 pm in reply to: Step Effector with lights?

I read up on the plain effector and the manual says it could be faster to calculate since it is more simple than the other effectors, so that could be one reason your method is better..

The visibility option also works with the plain effector if you set the min/max to 0/0, and invert the falloff.

January 16, 2010 at 6:42 pm in reply to: Step Effector with lights?

Hey thanks for the suggestion Adam. I also figured out how to do it using the visibility option (duh!) in the step effector’s parameters. This works when you set the effector’s min/max to -100,100. I guess this would be better than using the scale.

Is there a reason you would prefer your way as far as efficiency, processing, flexibility goes? I really don’t know what I’m doing in C4D. I just read and try things until I can get something to work. So I’m genuinely curious if your way is more proper or better for some reason.

    Thanks again.
