March 4, 2010 at 2:33 pm in reply to: Extruded nurb does something weird to my illustrator textFrom looking at your pics, I have to think there is something wrong with the splines. Maybe they are not closed properly or something. C4D doesn’t just add extra geometry arbitrarily, so the problem has to be in the splines somewhere. Can you post the illustrator file and I’ll take a quick look and then try to extrude it myself.

March 3, 2010 at 8:44 pm in reply to: Extruded nurb does something weird to my illustrator textTo upload a picture: when you respond to a post, click the little camera icon (third from right). You can then upload the pic and it will give you an embed code. Paste that code back into your reply and the picture will show up when you post.
The reason i said check the outline in Illustrator is because you said you were “erasing” stuff and adding other stuff. So if you’re not really familiar with Illustrator, there may have been extra points added in the process that you can’t see in the normal view. Like I said before, I was just guessing, so that may not be the problem.
Something else to think about: when you first import the illustrator artwork, does the spline look ok in the viewport? Also, does the artwork show up as one spline in the object manager or several? Sometimes you have to connect splines from Illustrator artwork to get it to work right..

I don’t have a ton of experience with Multi-pass renders, but I think you would just uncheck everything in Multi-pass and make sure the depth map is checked. It should then only render the depth pass.

you may need to put your text into a fracture object as well if you want it to be affected by the dynamics of it slamming into the picture. Only mograph objects will be affected by dynamics. Yes, you can put a rigid body tag on any object, but it will only be a static rigid body used for collision, and it will not react to the dynamics unless it is in a mograph object.
Also, you need to cut your plane into different sections so the fracture object can do its job. Use the knife tool to make cuts along the plane. You can also try the different modes of the fracture object.
If you want the pieces to come back together at some point, you can keyframe the “dynamic” property. So whenever you want the pieces to come back together, go back one frame and set a keyframe for the dynamic property. Go to the next frame, turn off dynamic and set another keyframe. The pieces should come back together at this point.
Hope some of this helps, good luck with it!

March 3, 2010 at 6:51 pm in reply to: Extruded nurb does something weird to my illustrator textMy first guess would be something you did when adjusting the text in Illustrator. Did you happen to look at the text in outline view in Illustrator. That way you can make sure you’ve deleted any unnecessary points that may not be visible in the standard view. Just a guess, hope it helps..

Also, here is a recent tutorial from Motionworks. It may help expand your basic understanding of how to work with and manipulate animation presets..

March 2, 2010 at 8:47 pm in reply to: “Instant Sex” technique Questions – Experienced Users?Pretty much what Dave said.. Every piece of footage is different… so the amount of blur, or the blending mode, or the opacity is totally dependent on the pixel values in the footage. Certain blend modes will make the footage much darker or lighter, others have a more subtle effect. Screen, Add and Overlay typically produce pleasing results, as do some of the light modes e.g. Hard Light, Soft Light, etc.. But again it all depends on the footage you are using.. This is one of those things where you just have to play with it and have fun. Its a good feeling when you find something you didn’t even know you were looking for and get one of those happy accidents!

At this point, which part is missing? I mean what is it not doing that you want it to do?
