  • Make Text (AI) Shatter a Photo (with Alpha)

All of the destruction (plugin) and Explosion tutorials use elements that differ from mine, so I am not getting results by following others’ methods.

    Please help.

I put a photo on a plane with alpha, so it looks like a floating person.

I put that into a Fracture Object and gave it a rigid body tag.

I want text (from Illustrator that I converted) to hit and shatter the image, so I copied the rigid body tag onto it per a tutorial.

All tutorials I see are using objects created in C4D like cubes, and text created in C4D, so I’m not getting results. And also after the explosion, the pieces won’t go back together.

How can I make this effect using the objects I am using?

you may need to put your text into a fracture object as well if you want it to be affected by the dynamics of it slamming into the picture. Only mograph objects will be affected by dynamics. Yes, you can put a rigid body tag on any object, but it will only be a static rigid body used for collision, and it will not react to the dynamics unless it is in a mograph object.

Also, you need to cut your plane into different sections so the fracture object can do its job. Use the knife tool to make cuts along the plane. You can also try the different modes of the fracture object.

If you want the pieces to come back together at some point, you can keyframe the “dynamic” property. So whenever you want the pieces to come back together, go back one frame and set a keyframe for the dynamic property. Go to the next frame, turn off dynamic and set another keyframe. The pieces should come back together at this point.

Hope some of this helps, good luck with it!

Here’s a video tutorial someone did using the new xplode plugin: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qAq5t3nibBI
