Thanks, that solves the problem !!

I would have never found that on my own, even though I was suspecting that it had something to do with a video–the icon was even showing up as a group of clustered photos rather than the typical ‘TIFF’ icon, yet it never occurred to me to look for a ‘Sequence’ checkbox.

I don’t know if I’m following your explanation correctly, but I certainly see transparencies in the tiffs that I work with. Is the background layer pure white, and you have other layers above it? Try turning off the eye of the background layer.

Not likely, but is it possibly that in your Preferences you have the Transparency settings messed up? For example, if your Transparency grid size is set to None, you will just see a solid background.

  • Thanks to both of you. I had to find a tutorial on saving the preset (I was selecting the keyframes, not the effect line itself), but it’s working now.

The exporting as an alpha wasn’t an option for this situation, as the presets are for basketball scores that change with each use.

  • I took the Shuttle and an HP laptop to Best Buy and asked them if I could hook up to some of their cameras to see if I could find one that would work. None of them had the full-sized HDMI port, but I hooked up to three different Sony camcorders, and every one worked right away!

My camera (the one that never worked) was a Sony CX560V. Yet a CX580V (very similar) did work, as did one camera that cost about $300.

So, after almost a year of trial and error, it ends up that it’s not the Shuttle (although BM had me send it in and found it to be defective, the replacement didn’t work, either), or the USB 3 chipset on the approximately dozen new computers I tried. It was the camera all along. It was only a year old, so I don’t know what design change they might have made so that the newer ones work. Maybe the HDMI port on my camera was defective (although it DID work going HDMI out to a TV).

Finally– I’ll be able to do a webcast with a decent camera instead of my old firewire model.

  • and let us know if you actually get the shuttle to work!

  • Thanks. I talked to support on Thursday. They had me send the unit in, as they thought it might be a faulty HDMI connection. (but I doubt it, because I had two and neither worked).

When you say Thunderbolt should work, are you talking just Apple Thunderbolt, or have you tested out a PC motherboard with Thunderbolt?

  • Did you see the post by Paolo where he said he got it to work with an Asus P9X79 motherboard? I’m tempted to custom-build one, but if for some reason it doesn’t work for me, it won’t be returnable.

Where is this ‘AV OUT’ option of ‘Auto’? In the Black Magic Control Panel? When I go to the BM Control Panel, all I see is ‘Set Output’, and the only choice is ‘All outputs active’.

This is about the 8th computer I’ve tried to get to work with my Shuttle. (an HP Phoenix by Microsoft Signature). For the first time, I was at least able to get video in BM software when using Component, but HDMI still gives me nothing but audio.

    Dell XPS 8500, Ivy Bridge

Same problem. No video at all in the Black Magic software. Ustream software picks up component output but not HDMI. I AM going in to the Black Magic control panel and setting it for either HDMI or Component.

Is it possible that there is just a malfunction with the HDMI port on this shuttle?
