Tonight I did a test with an i7 laptop. The webcast was MUCH clearer–no haze at all. Then I switched back to the X51 Alienware computer and it was hazy again.
Could it be the video card?

Problem solved.
I had gone back in to After Effects and changed the AE comp to 29.97, exported, then brought the new file in to Premiere. What I didn’t realize is that when the student created the original sequences in Premiere, the sequences changed from 29.97 to 25 fps PAL to match the AE video output.
So, I was bringing in 29.97 video into 25 fps sequences. Once I realized that, I just created new sequences for 29.97 and pulled in the 29.97 video and now all is well. The odd thing is, there were some 24 fps sequences and some 23.9xx sequences, but those worked fine.
Of course, I didn’t realize the solution until after I had made a bD disc for every senior,

Well, no change after exporting the AE projects from a 29.97 comp. Those 3 files still will not play on my desktops, but they’ve worked on all 3 computers that I’ve tried.

It’s all being done in Blu-Ray. They are single-layer discs. I’m on my way back to the school now to re-export the last 2 timelines and then burn a new BD.

Well — I feel like an idiot. I only had Styles and Layers showing in the palette, all I had to do was press F7 to bring in the templates.

Didn’t see this request until now.
I’ve used it on HP Pavillion Dv6 and Dv7 laptops with i7 processors. For desktops, I’ve used a Dell Alienware X51 and an HP Pavillion Phoenix with i7 processors. I’m not sure what motherboards they have in them. In all cases, USB 3 was on the motherboard. I’ve never gotten it to work with a PCI card for USB 3 (I’ve tried only one — possibly two).

I had lots of problems getting a working solution, but in the end, it was my CAMERA that was the problem–not the Shuttle or my various computers. Since I switched cameras, the shuttle has worked on every computer I’ve tried it on, including laptops and desktops. All were using the on-board USB 3.0

I just tried it tonight on Windows 8. I downloaded the newest software, and it seemed to install except toward the end I got a message saying that something didn’t install because the driver was not digitally signed. I could go to the Black Magic Control panel, but everything was grayed out.
I’m not sure if I’m doing something wrong, or is this just not compatible with Windows 8 (still?)
