    Hi Norman,

ok so my understanding is from your reply (bare with me I am brand new to all this video editing sony vegas etc)

so you know I am needing final render for either websites or youtube

I have attached screen shot of my render adjusted bit rate settings…so are they correct to use final render to upload to youtube?
are there some other settings here also I should do – if so please let me know

You said no need to further use handbrake if my bit rate is adjusted as handbrake reduces even more so defeats the object
(UNLESS I use a very high render setting in Vegas and bring that in for handbrake to do its work and reduce it to final out put

from my understanding what you are saying Youtube adjusts the bit rate right down anyways and when it was originally set in vegas at 8mbps it was to high and overkill

My project property settings in vegas pro 13 has the option of:
    pixel format 8 bit
or 32 bit floating point either (full range) or 32 (video levels)
    which should I use?

I am a little confused need to clarify please

    1) you suggested as an option if at all I was going to use handbrake then have high settings set for render in vegas and bring that into handbrake. Because handbrake will reduce this down and bit rate etc as final rendered version .

and my understanding what you were saying is that handbrake version ends up being a better quality then had I just used sony vegas pro main concept render setting and the 3mbps I may have even used?
have I got that correct in what my understanding you were saying ?

    Which begs the question:
Is the final quality using handbrake final version noticeable quite bit compared to say only using vegas to render ?
(at the above settings and screen shot I have and 3mbps you suggested for youtube)

  • Thanks Norman never used Masks so no idea really how to even use it and apply such a thing to what you said in reply to me -sorry…it went right over my head.

I never even used key frames I know what they are and can be applied to countless concepts from zoom to effects all sorts of things etc…the two guys video I thought must be easy to do…

****I can get the pillar box look using pan and crop so bars at top and bottom BUT as for it actually automatically opening or closing etc like they using key frames and HOW no idea let alone masks.

Wow thanks Norman…useful feedback very kind of you and some a bit over my head huge newbie to all this )-:
So can I check in with you here please:

when in Vegas (I use pro 13) and it comes to render for using websites or youtube I presume I still use that to render and can carry on with the MainConcept AVC using the Internet HD 720p template I was using?
(any other settings to select while in this template or would you suggest another one and which one and settings)
Then I presume bring that render file into handbrake and use handbrakes the standard setting for it not any advnaced settings correct?

    let me know
    many thnaks

Great many thanks Norman for quick response good of you and taking the time effort to check out my specific camera

So yes, 720 on my camera not available wow oh well… the so called pocket manual is awful as explained tells you nothing what each setting does just how much space memory they take up for MXP or FXP XP crazy!

    final clarify question please Norman:

    on my camera settings then

    XP+ (12 Mbps)
    FXP (17 Mbps)
    MXP (24 Mbps

which one shall I choose do you think for web youtube wise?

****By the way***The camera had great reviews for it all over the internet, forums etc virtually no negative feedback countless people loved it and amazing HD footage on youtube etc many showed and peoples blown away comments after seeing it…owners and comments saying way, way ahead of its time footage output wise and such HD quality up there with the consumer pros almost so hence I got it. On researching reviews (many!) at the time – no one mentioned not able to do 720 setting though Hmmm – wow did not spot that!

yes, There was numerous talk about about the 30p recorded as into 60i wrapperr but I recall seemed no big deal by most folk so yes bought it frankly love it and mic external jack plug (it has lots of manual settings as well i.e. white balance, exposure, audio levels, gain etc and down the road will remember next purchase 720 option!

Hi Norman newbie to all this so need to talk in pure 16 year old non techie Jargon )-:

Firstly I ‘d like to learn more and understand you asked
why film at 1080 when all you ever what is 720?

My stuff is for youtube and web sites and on my camera I select either MXP or FXP they record at 1920 x 1080 while all of the other formats XP sp and LP record in 1440 x 1080.
Norman are you saying choose in my case choose XP setting is good enough?
    (sorry newbie to all this)

****Canon’s HF-S10 manual is useless in this respect, as it says ZERO about the different video quality settings, except that they are an option, and the higher settings eat more media space.

See I thought the better quality you shoot (i.e. MXP or FXP in my case) then bring into video editing by the time it is done compressed etc even though I select as render 720 it will be high quality due to the orginal footage was shoot at high setting?

ok about project settings and my camera

yes camera is AVCHD and gives you mts files

    You said:
If the camera does encode 30p as 60i, you need to have your deinterlace setting correct, and you can always safely use Blend deinterlace in this circumstance.

***I PRESUME THAT IS A SETTING IN THE PROPERTIES PROJECT box to do this you mean? ***

If so which one do I choose under vegas pro 13 it has an option called deinterlace method and a drop down menu of 3 options:

    none, interpolate or Blend fields

    What should I select please?
and any other things to do while on the Project Properties?
For example pixel aspect ratio what setting and Filed order or anything else I should do

NOTE I have a cannon Vixia hfs10 and just read someone also said on sony creative forums they were confused and using sony vegas as it sees 30p setting on properties it shows up as 1080 60i read the thread about this and seems to be 30p being wrapped in 1080i (see this at: https://www.sonycreativesoftware.com/Forums/ShowMessage.asp?Forum=4&MessageID=649727)

    let me know

    many thanks Norman

  • Norman, many thanks much appreciated !
    Jenny

  • Thanks Graham ok…yes already know and use preset manager via Sony Creative Software for installing ones I found and liked on old laptop HOWEVER, I want to simply copy some saved presets fxs (mostly color corrections I tweaked and then saved i.e. gave them the name etc) I did on old laptop vegas pro12 and copy to the new laptop and vegas 13….Hmmm so not sure where preset manager comes even in for doing that – as seems to me I simply open the FX vegas folder Norman mentioned location wise and simply copy paste to new laptop same folder?

    Jenny

  • Norman, I presume then I open that folder called “OFX Presets” which I have just done and copy what is in there over to the NEW laptop yes-correct?

    Jenny

  • Graham, sorry what you said over my head, no idea what SCS means. Why would I get back here with my questions though? When I have described what I want to do and have already create color corrections fxs saved them and want to to transfer from one pc to another along etc.
