Still none the wiser here sorry!
as to what might be a good useful workflow hard drives set up,
GIVEN what options I have mentioned I have available as in my original post…..

(I have explained what videos I will produce… i.e. talk to camera mostly for website and / youtube and raw files being .mt files or maybe mp4 at times)

Ok I am a total newbie and replies need to be layman terms language here folks….

My guess is I have the software itself sony vegas (and indeed whatever software all should go on the 256GB solid state drive….

And I presume actual video raw files and output form sony vegas it produces (temp files, project veg files) or indeed any media that may be used such as background music, images etc get stored and put into folders that make sense to me…. on the the other SECOND hard drive of the laptop (the 1000gb)

OR should I use as I have originally asked: also my other external hard drives the usb 3.0 ones I have (720rpm)

AND use a combination of BOTH the laptop second drive (1000GB) and also use external usb 3.0 hardrives

If it a good idea of using a combo of my other second on board laptop hard drive and external usb 3.0

***my question is so what files with sony vegas would go where for each drive (the laptop second on board 1000GB HD and the external usb 3.0)

***For in relation to The other media bits I may use and actual raw video files, the actual created project veg files (and vegas temp file folder) and the final render file itself when it is creating and doing this – what hard drive to set that to?

    thanks
    Jenny

John, I am a vegas newbie (vegas 12 pro) and be grateful of some feedback or anyone…..If you have a sony veags project template (entire veg file and plus all it assets images used etc) which someone gave me with some neat effects applied and I want swap out the images and videos for my specific own ones then…how does one go about doing that please?
and making sure you keep the original master one he gave.

***Would I for example double click the original veg file he gave then save as and call it something different? and then HOW do I then start to swap on the time line the vids images he has for inserting my own?

    thank you
    Jenny

  • Oh ok thanks for getting back to me…I use a three year old 4 gig laptop maybe it is not able to do this and plug in an external monitor I will def have a not vey good graphics card as part of my laptop that came with it!

Perhaps then this is why these effects are not coming up?
    I
am totally upgrading to a much higher spec laptop anyways as it happens next month so will play with the new laptop.
(No big deal just more curious why I could use BCC8 effects with others ok but not as mentioned these specific ones…)

***Actually talking of which do you know anything about a good spec for laptops for video editing ***** ( I have to use a laptop not desktop pc I live various countries throughout the year) if so, let me know and I can give the link info to two I have in mind spec wise (I presume its ok to mention the url links via amazon?)

    Thanks Jenny

  • Hi Jon,

I applied flare both normal and 3 D using BCC 8 and simply does not show anything no effect immediately you can see in play back in the monitor unlike many of the other BCC8 you see the moment you drop on to the event etc! Hmm very strange also Glitter or Prism both again do not work…
now I presume one is supposed to see an immediate effect and nothing else setting wise to the effect I need to also do in order for glitter , prism or flare to show by the way? (as in the Boris video when he applied flare and advanced they both showed up immediately in the monitor) the flare for sony vegas itself they supply works ok…so any ideas Jon / anyone why these specific 3 effects and using BBC 8 for them inside sony vegas is not working for me please?

    Jenny
