May 21, 2012 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Beach Balls, Encoding Issues, Re-install problemsI have it encoding right now and it looks like it’s working.
The solution had to do with HP (Hewlett Packard) Software. When I installed my HP Printer Software, it comes with a ton of stuff. One of them is a software that is called HP Customer Research Survey. I noticed in Activity Monitor that when DVDStudio PRo launched, it would go unresponsive. I did some research and realized that this really was the problem. It works in the background collecting information and sends it to HP. I uninstalled the Research Survey and once I did, the encoding process started in DVD Studio Pro.
To uninstall, go to Hewlett Packard Folder. Launch the Research Survey Application. When you do, there is a pop-up that gives you the option to opt out and uninstall.

*** SOLVED
FCP cannot handle jpegs larger than 4000×4000. If one dimension is larger than 4000, it can result in odd behavior, including what I was experiencing with the border error.
Not to mention an “Out of Memory” Error due to the high dimensions. No need for photos to be that large.

wait… it seems like the jpegs that this is messing up on has one of the dimensions larger than 2000 and even others as large as 4000. I need to make them smaller. I will re-post if this fixes the border issue.

If I did that, it would apply the border to the animated background, which is what is full frame. I want the border to be around the individual jpegs that are smaller than full frame, sitting “on top” of the animated background.
I keep taking the border off, rendering the sequence and then re-adding the border, but it still yields the same result. It seems to react differently to different pictures and I wonder if there is something about the original photo files that would cause the filter to behave that way….

October 5, 2009 at 6:38 pm in reply to: Field Dominance, Render Seq Settings, and ExportAt this point, I’m realizing that my “current project settings” were probably wrong from the beginning. I don’t mind sending the sequence through a re-render with the right settings, but I’m very confused on what settings I should use. Most of my project consists of Vintage photographs scanned at high resolution and given to me from various sources (scanned differently from each one). I also have HDV footage of interviews we shot. I want 720X480 anamorphic, so it appears widescreen.
If someone can help me figure out what my sequence settings should be first so I’m not losing quality from step 1!
Then, I would probably just be able to export with “current settings” or send to Compressor for Mpeg-2.Thanks,

I will try those techniques and report back.
Thanks!

I am writing a year later to tell you that I fixed the problem.
(I do a yearly video where this comes into play and this year I started having the problem again, but I figured it out, so I thought I’d post here in case anybody read it later and needed a fix)So, let’s say I am bringing in 10 sequences in a final sequence. If I put 3 of them on Video track 1 and the remaining 7 on video track 2-5, I was getting out of sync issues with the videos on TRACK 1 only. If I fixed the first one, then the 2nd and 3rd would become out of sync.
So, I moved the sequences up off of TRACK 1 and then PRESTO, no more nesting problems! WHy? I’m not sure. But, it is a fix. By moving those sequences off of Video Track 1, it was all fixed and I have no more problems. 🙂
