I am trying to composite both images and video frames over an animated background using OVERLAY. I cannot seem to dissolve in to the images while maintaining the composite effect. What happens is that during the dissolve, you visually see the photo dissolve in without the composite (overlay) effect; once the dissolve is complete it “jumps” into overlay mode. I tried using the dissolve command and also tried using the opacity control by keyframing from 100 to 0 — both ways have the same result.

    Any ideas?

What happens if you take the two shots with the dissolve, turn off overlay and then make a quicktime of the shots, the replace the original clips over the background and set to overlay?

I was also wondering if nesting might help, but I am not sure it will and nesting can be an ugly thing if you need to later media manage.

Export Quicktimes with the Overlay composite mode “baked” in. Don’t forget to include handles for your dissolve.

Bring them back in and do your dissolve…does it work now?

Also try, as suggested above, using nesting…this is what its mainly for…although, sometimes their behavior can be…um…unpredictable.

I will try those techniques and report back.
    Thanks!
