DAN! I hope you see this message!

The script works but I am having major issues with it dropping words. If the highlighter skips the text in Premier it skips the marker in AE as well. I made some items work using the merge with previous word but it doesn’t always work. I’ve verified that the markers are not on top of each other and adjusted the length to both shorten and lengthen. I have tried adding markers and also going back to Premier and trying to fix there.

Either way I am wonder if there is a way for the script to see markers that I added myself? I’m so frustrated!

I am working on the same type of expression above. JUST FYI if anyone else reads this.
Take the Text tool and draw the text area or text box. This will keep the words from going off the screen, because it wraps the text for you.

My issue is stopping the expression from displaying words when no one is speaking. So if my expression is always set to 9 words but I only want 2 of those words to show until I get closer to the next marker.

And then start the script back up.

October 12, 2010 at 5:17 pm in reply to: Best Set up for FCP/Motion and AE editing

I have CS4 on the AE, Premium, Encoder, and Photoshop.

I found out since posting this that because I have a first gen Mac. There is not much I can do. The video card I have on it is about as high end as it will allow.

I have a Dual Core processor when apparently I need quad or higher.

I also have heard but have not verified that I can only had 500GB hard drives and not 1tb or higher.

I have heard so many different things but mostly if I use mostly FCP and Motion that a video card is not going to help me all that much. I need more processor power.

I guess now I am looking to verify if my new research is correct.

    Thanks SO MUCH!

Can I ask another question? What is the real difference between ProRess HQ and not HQ?

I have been fighting a HD Greenscreen shoot for a week now. If I try just the ProRess instead of HQ do you think I maybe able to get it to export without crashing?

I am new to using HD and did not realize I really don’t have the Ram to pull it off.

    UPDATED QUESTION:

I just watched a video tutorial from Plural Eyes that confirmed I should place each camera’s clips on it’s own sequence and export a .mov. Then each camera is only one angle and easier to multiclip edit. So here is my question:
The video recomends you UNCHECK make self contained movie. Can I still do that if I am changing the codec?

    Thanks!

    Hello,
Sorry it took so long to respond.

The only program I am using at this time is keynote. The contents of the slides are just pictures and pngs from Photoshop.

Once upon a time before I had the mac mini I would use the keynote to export a QT .mov with a h.264 compression, again the settings at 1440X1080, and then convert it to WMP (these computers were not so hot Dell’s and WMP was the most reliable).

But as I said….with the Mac Mini’s I can avoid the export and just play the Keynote.

    Hello,

It has been a long time but I am still having color issues. I have checked and my QT settings are check for compatible.
I am now working on a new project and I am having the same loss of gamma.

Does anyone else have this issue?

okay folks – here is what I have decided.
The boss has made up his mind and I will take these lemons and make the best lemonade ever!

So here is what I am asking of the forum. Please help me formulate a workflow.

The projects I will have to film with the HDSLR will be:

Interview style footage against a green screen in a controlled environment. Equipment note : I will have two softboxes and a Lowe light kit (2 omni barn doors, 2 totas, a small spot, and two umbrellas).
There are times I will be shooting a person at their desks for training videos. Those are the types of tripod shooting I do.

I do know that I can argue to never mix the hd footage with the XL2 NTSC footage. So at least on projects that will have B roll I can get away with not using the HD SLR – Is that a correct way of explaining it to him? Can someone offer me again some arguing points to prove my point of view?

The output I can’t tell you – because I have always shot 4:3 NTSC DV. So I really don’t even know how to set up my FCP presets for the .mov that comes from the HDSLR. I did a quick 2 min experiment and came up with the following – Can someone verify if this is correct?

    Easy Set up
    Format: HD Rate: All Rates
Use: DVCPRO HD – 1080p30 What worries me about this is the cannon at 1080i only shoots 20fps

    Sequence Settings
    Frame size 1920X1080 Aspect ratio – HDTV 1080i (16:9)
    Pixel Aspect Ratio – Square
    Field Dominance – None
    Editing Timebase – 30
QT video Settings – Apple ProRes 422(HQ)

    Export using QT
    Frame size: 1920X1080 HDTV 1080i (16:9)
    Square
    None
    29.97
    Same as Editing Timebase
    QT settings
    H.264

The ultimate use for these videos will be:

  • Played back on Dell’s thru a projector (I will probably convert from QT to WMV as the trainers have several other programs running at the same time. The Dell’s just handle the WMV’s better than the QT in this situation)
  • Played on TVs that are hooked to Dells. Usually I need these videos in 1440X1080. My current TVs can not handle 1920X1080 resolution set in the Dells control panel. So with res that does work the video card compresses 16:9 into 4:3 anyway. So 1440X1080 WMV really was the best workflow for playback.
  • Last but not least playback on the web in, of course, a smaller size.
  • SO….
Now that you know the back story —–

1st – Any warnings I should know before I set up. Something I should add to the “If you can adjust it you must check it” rule.

2nd – What should I set my FCP settings to? I know I can not log and transfer with the HDSLR footage. I can import the .mov file and that works fine.

3rd – Is there a GOOD video tutorial on roundtriping to STP to sync and replace the HDSLR with the XL-2’s audio.

4th – My instincts tell me to let the camera roll without stopping on both cameras. That way I have only 2 sets of movies instead of multiple clips on both cameras. Fix the sound and then instead of what WOULD have been a batch capture, to make subclips being careful to leave plenty of handles.

    So what do you think?
Thanks – sorry this post is so long.
