Thanks, I posted this here and on the Panasonic list and someone there suggested copying the entire card. I did that and the system recognized the DVD as a p2 source. (Yay!) It even recognized two cards if I put them in separate directories (“Card 1” and “Card 2”)

Now the problem is that it won’t relink after the media has been deleted. (I’d like to be able to feed the disks back in one-at-a-time and have the Avid re-build the program just as it would do with tapes)

It’s not happening.

We might end up having to go back to tape, too.

I appreciate your suggestions. If you make a breakthrough, please share it! There are probably others with the same problems.

I was just running into that with my test materials. Burning a DVD of the p2 cards materials works for putting the video into the computer but no amount of swearing would get it to re-link my sequence after I had deleted the media files.

So do you archive your P2 materials directly from the cards AND your Avid files from the media drives?

That would seem like a lot of DVDs if you did both.

Have you had any luck putting more than one card on a DVD? Can I make separate directories on the DVD, “card 1”, “card 2” and so on… putting the entire card’s file structure in the directory… would that work?

Ok, I got it to work but it seems very clumsy. I had to use 3 video tracks:

V3-foreground video
V2-grayscale image to control the key
V1-background video

On V3 I put the

When you rendered the quicktime file, did you set the colors to “16 million +”? The “+” gives you the alpha channel.

Specifically, I put the luma key on the video in V2. Then, stepping into that effect, I put the grayscale image into the layer below.

Then I applied the BCC Make Alpha effect to the grayscale image and set the output to a gel.

I thought that the resulting crisp image would make it easier for the luma key to work. (The gel output sends out a black and white image with a gray haze only where the change was occuring. This black and white image changed over time.)

It kinda worked but during the duration of the effect, there was either a black or white
