After effects animation in media composer
I’m trying to import an after effects animation (a lower third -right to left animation with a portion of the animation dissolving out with an image remaining full in the lower third corner of the screen.) I’ve tried as an avi, a quicktime, an omf. Nothing seems to be working. The avi comes in partially keyable, the quicktime won’t key at all, and the omf isn’t keying either. I’ve tried importing different fields, resolutions but it’s still not working. Any info would be much appreciated. I’m pretty green when it comes to graphics. Thanks – Jen

When you rendered the quicktime file, did you set the colors to “16 million +”? The “+” gives you the alpha channel.

Struggling AVID Editor -
sometimes I render out a fill and a matte separate, then impot the two into avid and apply the matte key effect to the matte and invert the key. I find it is cleaner that way.

Export your animation with a codec that supports alpha–I use either Animation or Avid codec–with Depth set to Millions of Colors+, Channels set to RGB+Alpha, and Color set to Straight(Unmatted). Then just import into the Avid like you would a normal movie.
