I’ve only spent a couple of hours with it, maybe 3. It did not crash, not even once. But then neither is my install of 11 crashing. I don’t know why.

    We will see.

You’re all going to want this one.

The Layer dimensionality Plugin is awesome.

The Lab Color Space and especially Color match are excellent and for me probably worth the upgrade price alone.

Plus throw in masking of FX – no more extra track workarounds.

Shape Masking Tools looks very useful, I guess I use a lot of masks.

Project Media Tagging looks useful, maybe now I will get organized.

I haven’t tried the project interchange yet, but if it works it is going to kick some butt.

    This is one sweet update!

September 6, 2012 at 2:04 am in reply to: rendering 720p for DVD.. which render setting?

    Gilles,

I would re-render the original (1920×1080), (use the Best setting because you are reducing it), using the DVDA-[NTSC|PAL]-Widescreen template, and the Dolby AC3 template for the audio. Drop it in a DVDA project with a screen capture background and you have a nice DVD presentation.

Play it first and see how it turns out. I generally de-saturate about 10% and use the broadcast filter when going to DVD to be played on a TV.

  • Ben,

You might have recorded using the Dolby AC3 encoder for the audio part. If so, re-record using PCM, MP3, or some compatible with editing. Double check the audio codec.

September 6, 2012 at 1:31 am in reply to: rendering 720p for DVD.. which render setting?

    Gilles,

I’m confused… 720p on a DVD? DVD can only use the NTSC or PAL DVD templates, unless you want DVDA to re-encode it.

    Tell more details please.

  • All is as Steve says, besides I don’t think you can open a .veg in platinum. The file extension for them is .vf

Verify this because I might have old info about this.

Why don’t you just re-install v6 from your original media? If it worked for your needs, keep using it.

September 5, 2012 at 2:20 pm in reply to: Vegas 11 Pro & DVDA Pro overkill for my use?

    Jim,

[But if decide not to go with Vegas then I don’t know if any other products will take advantage of the GPU for rendering?] You can make Adobe Premiere pro recognize almost any Nvidia Cuda card that Vegas can with an override to it’s video card exception file.

That’s not an endorsement, though. I think Premiere is the least intuitive NLE in use today. I am forced to work with it on occasion.

I have three computers with Vegas and DVDA installed. They have been rock solid, with the exception of the introductory version of NB Titler pro, which was quickly de-installed. I never use a codec pack, install screen savers or other downloaded crap. I test out on a less important computer anything I think I’ll need. I don’t even surf on my production machine. Still Vegas has had it’s share of issues, as evidenced here by other users. But last week I was working with a mixed timeline of AVCHD and RED Epic assets – no problems. So I think it can handle anything I need to get done. Plus, I like the feel of it.

    Hope this helps,

    Jeff

    Sam,

Try copying each track to a new project. Highlight everything on the track and copy it. Switch to a new project, with the properties and tracks all set up, and paste that part into it. Repeat this for all the tracks making sure you have accounted for any open space at the beginning of the track. Save this under a new name and folder, with the save media checkbox checked. If the save fails you will find your problem file, if there is one. If it all saves fine, try rendering the new project.

It might be a longshot, but this is the best chance of rescuing your work.
