  • Sony Vegas 6 or Movie studio hd11 platinum production suite for VIDEO editing

Posted by Kyle Hillman on September 5, 2012 at 1:08 am

Hi, I currently have sony vegas 6.0 that I use for video editing. However due to a computer crash I lost it and it has been a pain in the neck to get it back. So I was wondering if anyone could tell me if I bought vegas movie studio 11 platinum production suite would that have the same capability’s as far as video editing gos? I know it only lets you have ten tracks, but would all the other effects be the same? Just wondering before I buy it. Thank you!!

No, all the effects would not be the same. The Pro version of
Vegas has far more features and plugins capacity than the Studio version.

All is as Steve says, besides I don’t think you can open a .veg in platinum. The file extension for them is .vf

Verify this because I might have old info about this.

Why don’t you just re-install v6 from your original media? If it worked for your needs, keep using it.

Well a friend of mine gave it to me, but then through out the serial number. so when my computer broke down I switched it to a different computer, but so far I can’t get it re installed. So I was looking for something reasonably cheap to use for video editing. Thanks for your help guys!

Jeff is right – Movie Studio cannot open Vegas Pro (*.veg) projects, so if you need to open your old Vegas Pro projects then you need to get a version of Vegas Pro. Vegas 6 is pretty old now, but if you had a genuine registered copy and activated it online, then you might be able to see your code/serial via the Sony registration website.

You still get a respectable set of plugins with Movie Studio HD Platinum, but not the advanced features like scripting, video scopes, compositing modes etc.

Thanks, I will try logging into my account, because I’m pretty sure I did register it online.

Also if you are gonna make a purchase, according to your
posts, i would recommend you to throw in a bit more and
just purchase the Pro version instead of the Studio version.
