ANY video that is meant for computer viewing should be deinterlaced, since computer displays are progressive. That is why you see 1080i presets for Blu-ray, but not for H.264.
Is your computer monitor full 1920×1080? If not, then you could be seeing scaling issues in the playback application.

Please try to actually BURN a Blu-ray and try it in the living room. Computer displays don’t always show what you expect to see for various reasons. You could be worried about nothing, when in fact the Blu-ray might come out just fine. Just use the “H.264 for Blu-ray” preset at 1080i 29.97 and make a sample disc and try it.

Hi Jonathan,
Only nVidia cards have the CUDA technology, so other manufacturer’s cards are not an option for Adobe Mercury Playback Engine acceleration. The only current offering for Mac is the Quadro 4000 card.
Th previous offering for Mac Pro was the GTX 285, but I don’t think that supported the 1.1 Mac either.

Perhaps the clip is corrupted. Have you tried creating a NEW project, and importing the questionable clip to see how it behaves? If it works ok, then there might be a corruption of your project. Create a NEW project, and import the problem project into it, sometimes helps.

Like Kevin said, video clip appears to be larger than the sequence setting frame size, but if you WANT that size sequence setting – right-click the clip on the timeline and select “Scale to Frame Size” to get clip to fit better.

Hi Joseph,
HD files in the H.264 format require a lot of overhead for playback. I have more experience on the PC side, but I’m sure that adding a Quadro 4000 for Mac display card would help greatly by enabling the GPU-acceleration in the Adobe Mercury Playback Engine. That’s been my experience on the PC side, huge difference in performance with the right GPU.
As for the conforming, that is for the audio. The video is not transcoded, as FCP always did, but the audio must be standardized internally. It should only do this once, the first time you load the clips.

Hi Anders,
If you scroll down further under the VIDEO tab, you should see the frame dimensions. They may be “locked together” with a chain link – you must unlink that when customizing the sizes.

Copy the original folder structure from the media card direct to your edit hard drive, without using Sony browser. Then in Premiere, rather than “Import”, use the “Media Browser” found at bottom left of Premiere interface to dig through your folders and find the video clips. This is the best way to import AVCHD and other tapeless formats.
