Download it, put it in your scripts folder and relaunch AE. It’ll show up in File-> Scripts. I’ve never used it, but check the demo out, it should do what you want.

If that doesn’t have enough control you can try splitImage and just keyframe the positions independantly.

I believe that Lux, Particular, Sound Keys and Echospace are free upgrades because there’s no real updates to the plugin.

Starglow, Shine, and 3D Stroke all have some updates and improvements on top of the intel/cs3 compatibility.

Check if your camera (or some layer controlling your camera) is a frame short.

You could also try purging- go to Edit–> Purge All and then try RAM previews. Sometimes it just gets stuck and you have to purge before it can render on.

Another tactic I employ all the time is instead of typing Numpad 0 to RAM Preview, type Shift-Numpad 0. This will render every other frame so you can preview longer (and quicker.)
