  • Help: Strange jump caused by layer out points

Posted by Eric Goldstein on July 18, 2007 at 5:32 pm

    Hi,

I’m working on a complex project with many (hundreds) of layers – most layers are 3D. I’m experiencing a strange jump of objects within in a scene at the out point of other, completely unassociated layers. The jump lasts one frame – the very last frame of the out going layers and is gone on the following frame.

Any idea what this might be and how to correct it?

    Thanks,

    Eric

Check if your camera (or some layer controlling your camera) is a frame short.

There’s really not enough information in your post to determine exactly what’s going wrong. Is there a transition between camera layers? Are you using any 3rd party effects (these sometimes forget to update when you make changes, try Edit>Purge>Purge All)? Are you using time-remapping or time based effects? If you trim the offending layer back one frame does it still occur?

could also be expression. Layers influenced by expression somethimes change their behavior slightly when you add a new layer into the comp. Could be the reverse effect here. Probably not though.

Hi, Thanks for your responses. There is absolutely no connection between the layer out points that seem to be defining the jump in the layer above them. There is only one continuous camera. There are no key frames near the jump. It is the end of layers above those in which the jump occurs that are determining where the jump occurs. Changing the out point of the unassociated layers changes where the jump fram occurs. Moving these layers – all above the layers being effected as opposed to below them, eliminates the jump. Also – no expressions used in any of these layers.

    Thanks,

    Eric

Any effects used? Are you using time-remapping or time based effects?

If you can manage to take a screen shot of all the modified properties on your layers (select the layers and press ‘uu’) that would probably be the most helpful thing for us to attempt to determine the problem. Of course, with a lot of layers, this will be a lot of information as there are a lot of variables involved. I’d just hate to have you step through everything you did one by one =)
