Not every editing technique you use in a different NLE will translate well into the FCPX way of doing things and, unfortunately, it doesn’t support copying and pasting the way you want which makes that particular approach to editing music videos fairly awkward in X.

Mark and John have suggested what’s probably one of the best approaches to cutting a music video in FCPX.

The current version of Compressor is much faster than older versions but the final export speed is going to depend a lot on not just Compressor but the efficiency of any effects, etc that are applied to the footage along with the horsepower of the computer you’re running it on.

Clipwrap is fairly old. Have you tried its big brother, EditReady for the conversion?

You can send the project to Davinci Resolve and do the media management from there if you need to tackle things before Worx4X is released.

.fcpbundle is correct for a library. 10.2.x shouldn’t have any update issues going forward to 10.3.x. In a recent thread here Noah linked to an older 10.2.3 version demo of FCPX. You might try installing that and see if it has the same issue has the 10.3 demo.

It could be worth reinstalling FCPX or deleting its preferences. I use EditReady to convert all my camera files and I have never had FCPX duplicate or need to reencode media on import.

it does. I’ve been using the beta almost daily and it’s hard to imagine life without it. Resolve can do the same job but it’s a bit like using an elephant gun on a mouse. Much better to use something lightweight and designed specifically for the task.

Not knowing how your computer is set up or what else you have installed that might be interfering with the import, I can’t do much to help but I can tell you that I can import 100gb of footage from my GH4 in seconds, not hours.

I’d have pointed the finger at AVCHD files, which Is a format I avoid like the plague as FCPX has no choice but to import and rewrap the files, but your description of using FCPX makes me think either your machine needs a good reinstall and clean out – or it’s under-resourced somewhere.

In comparison, my 2013 Mac Pro can do several streams of 4k without raising a sweat. Even my little 11″ MacBook Air is useable with FCPX for a single stream of 4k without having to resort to proxy mode.

Something is definitely wrong with your system.

Your iMac should have thunderbolt ports rather than lightning ports (which are the ports on iPhones and iPads). I used to use a thunderbolt to FireWire 800 adapter then a FireWire 800 to dv adapter cable. Worked well back in the day but not sure if FCPX 10.3 even supports capturing FireWire any more.
