Haven’t crossed paths with .mlv files in a long time. Mostly because I refuse to take them and make whoever’s supplying them do the conversion first. Not sure if the process has changed recently – it’s been a couple of years – but you need to install a command line app called mlv_dump and so some arcane command line stuff to get it to convert the mlv file into Cinema DNG then work from there.
I’ve lost my bookmark to the download but you should be able to find links to the Mac version the app on the Magic Lantern site.

Select all the multicam cuts in the project and make them a compound clip. Show audio lanes and you will have all your audio reassembled into continuous tracks.

Hmmm… One of the big deals about Mavericks (and I think mostly undocumented) was that it improved compatibility with the legacy FCP suite. Can’t vouch for how well FCP itself works as the only thing I ever use it for is to convert legacy projects to FCPX but DVDSP, etc has been working for me since then. Can’t hurt to create a partition and give it a go.

FCP 7 runs well under El Capitan and I’ll assume it runs under Sierra as well although I haven’t done that personally. Unless there’s other legacy software you need to run, just install Sierra on a new partition and then install FCP legacy.

In the FCPX editing paradigm, connected clips and secondary storylines are meant to be used for b-roll so I guess Apple don’t see the need to connect other clips to those clips. I agree it would occasionally be handy though.

Try making a compound clip of the footage you’ve masked. That should let you move it, rather than the mask. For more control than that you probably want to be working directly in Motion itself.

Here in Australia, I’ve had material rejected because FCPX is lousy at deinterlacing but never because of whatever it’s doing to conform non-25p material. If in doubt you might want to run your master through JES Deinterlacer instead. I’ve never had a network have an issue with either its deinterlacing or standards conversion.

For me the encoding actually got better and faster after the update. Firsts thought is to make sure you’ve also installed the latest pro codecs update.
did you do a clean install or an upgrade? Are you exporting from final cut or sending to compressor? Using built in settings or custom presets? Does it happen if you log in as a new user? Does it happen with everything or just particular source codecs? Is it just those codecs you mentioned or does exporting to ProRes have the same issues.
What steps have you taken so far to diagnose the problem? Have you tried deleting and re-installing fvpx, compressor, etc?

A mask will copy with the effect you apply it to, e.g.. copy the color board from one clip to another and the mask goes with it but you can’t can’t copy the mask from one effect to another.
