So we’re talking a crash during background render? The bad news is that whatever the reason, it’s just as likely to cause a crash when you go to export. It might not, but don’t be surprised.
i don’t think you mentioned what format the media was. I’d be more inclined to make sure it’s all optimised than turn it into proxy media.
I’d also try turning background render off and then rendering sections of the timeline until I hit whatever part was causing the crash. If you can isolate it, you’ve taken a big step towards fixing the issue.

I’d be happy to. I’ve got a project in front of me with some very dodgy hand-held footage. I’m in Australia so it’s all 25p either 4k or 1080p

June 21, 2017 at 8:39 pm in reply to: Is it possible to delete unused parts of media, to reduce size of the FCPX Library?I use Worx4 X all the time and it works as advertised. As you say, it can’t handle muiticam clips, other than to transfer the footage in its entirety, which I believe is a limitation due to the info they can get from the final cut XML so isn’t likely to change any time soon but they’re always working to improve the app so I’m sure it will be supported as soon as it can be.

I’d agree you’re probably just running out of resources on that machine. My only suggestion would be to reboot right before you render and make sure there’s as little running in the background as possible other than FCPX.

If you don’t need the quality of the original footage then transcoding to ProRes is always a good option for FCPX.
My workflow would be to use something like EditReady to convert the 5d4 files to ProRes -> edit in FCPX -> export ProRes master file.

When you trash FCPX the App Store will install the full app. As I mentioned though, you need to have the minimum version OS installed – which for FCPX 10.3.3 is macOS 10.11.4 (El Capitan).

Some users, myself included, just had trouble getting the 10.3.3 and newer update to apply. If your version of MacOS qualifies, just trash your current version of FCPX and reinstall the updated one.
