I’m assuming that you’re talking about exporting out of Premiere Pro to media encoder, in which case you must be referring to the CS4 bundle.

There’s a posting back on June 9th of 2009 where Phillipe Verdoni offers a suggestion that absolutely fixed the same problem for me, and also cleared up an After Effects dynamic linking problem. You may want to refer to that post.

    The link is https://forums.creativecow.net/thread/3/893296.

Give that a shot and see if it works.

February 4, 2010 at 8:35 pm in reply to: Adobe Dynamic Link Error ???

I just want to add what a helpful post this was. Our IT department installed the CS4 bundle on my updated workstation, and added a couple of CS3 products after the CS4 install (instead of installing the CS3 items first), and it messed up a couple of things, the main one being the dynamic link functionality. I’m not blaming them for what happened (since they don’t normally work with production software), just pointing out what caused the problem.

Philippe’s suggestion completely fixed the problem I was having between Premiere Pro CS4 and Adobe Media Encoder. Easier than doing a complete reinstall.

The other reason I’m posting this is because it also fixed a problem I was having with the dynamic link functionality between Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, which included Premiere crashing every time I clicked on the AE Comp that was added to my Premiere project window.

    Thanks Philippe for your knowledge.

    Thanks for the update Baz.

Unfortunately, Choosing ‘generic’ for device brand didn’t halp much. I did notice a difference, but not much. Basically, it would capture a clip after doing a reverse search for the in-point, but it won’t lock in on the pre-roll point after a forward search.

Taking your lead on trying something different for Device Brand, I tried ‘ADS’ instead of ‘Generic’. I don’t get any kind of machine control if I want to just playback or search the tape, but that setting does work for batch capture.

So, to summarize it, I can use ‘Sony’ or ‘Generic’ for Device Brand when I’m logging, but then I have to change Device Brand to ‘ADS’ when I’m ready to batch capture.

Thanks for you feedback and input Baz. It definitely help me solve this problem.

    Hi Baz,

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately, your idea didn’t work. I set the device to Sony standard (couldn’t find a generic option), and set the deck to SHUTTLEMAX. It’s still overshooting the in-point, back and forth, until it gives up, and eventually fails on all clips in the batch capture.

Do you have any other suggestions? The video was shot on a Canon XL-H1, but it was shot in field mode, and it does play back on the deck.

    Thanks,

    Jeff

    Hi Jeff,

No, I have not tried transfering a project from Premiere Pro to Avid, so I can’t help you with that question. The problem I was having with the timecode in Premiere 1.0 did go away with an upgrade to 1.5. After re-opening a 1.0 project in 1.5, all of my timecode information came back.
