Can’t capture with HVR-M15U
Has anyone else had this problem? When I try to capture HDV, or downconverted HDV to DV footage with the Sony HVR-M15U deck, I keep getting the message that it can’t find the in-point. This is especially problematic when I’m doing a batch capture. It will fail to capture any clip in a long list of them. I end up hooking up my Canon XL-H1 to capture HDV or downconverted DV footage. We bought the HVR-M15U so we wouldn’t put so much wear and tear on the camera.
On the flip side, I don’t appear to have any problems when I’m capturing from DV or DVCam tapes. Only when I’m capturing from HDV tapes. I also notice that the search speeds on the deck, when Premiere is trying to capture footage from HDV tapes, seems to be faster than when I capture from DV/DVCam tapes, which seems to contribute to overshooting the in points.
Could it be a configuration issue? The Sony HVR-M15U is not included in the list of decks you can choose from when configuring your capture options. But I’ve used other camcorders and decks that weren’t on that list either, and they’ve worked.
I’m using Premiere Pro 2.0 on a dual-processor IBM IntelliStation Z Pro, with the decks or camcorders connected to the integrated firewire connection. Could it be the integrated firewire? I can install an ADS Pyro card.
Any help and feedback would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Jeff
