I apologize for a question that probably deals with an old issue, but I’m a Discreet and Avid editor that recently has been using Premiere Pro for primary editing. The place where I now work has not upgraded and is still using Premier Pro 1.0. When I capture long clips (the long clips I’ve captured are from 30 to 60 minutes long), the “media in points” or “video in points” lose the original marked “in” point and switch to “00;00;00;00”. The obvious long term problem with this is that I can’t recapture the footage from tape and have it fall back into place correctly on the timeline. Not to mention the fact that because the new in point is “00;00;00;00”, the capture utility won’t even begin the capture. Shorter clips (10 seconds to 3 minutes, etc.) retain their timecode information no problem.

What can I do about this? I can’t find any update patches for version 1.0 at the Adobe site. I was hoping it was a bug that could be fixed with a patch. Or do I need to try and convince the money handlers around here to upgrade to 1.5? Would that fix it? I work for a University and it can be a challenge to free up money for anything.

    Thanks for any help,

    Jeff

    Hi,

I am curious since you also do editing on other systems to include Avid, have you in any way worked on project or sequence exchange between Premiere and Avid, and if so, what has been your experiences?

    Hi Jeff,

No, I have not tried transfering a project from Premiere Pro to Avid, so I can’t help you with that question. The problem I was having with the timecode in Premiere 1.0 did go away with an upgrade to 1.5. After re-opening a 1.0 project in 1.5, all of my timecode information came back.

    Jeff
