I’m having problems getting Adobe Media Encoder to encode my video.

I export a sequence from Premiere CS4 to Media Encoder and hit “Start Queue”. An alert symbol pops up and the message says “Could not read from the source. Please check if it has moved or been deleted”. The source path points to:

    “C:DOCUME~1SeanLOCALS~1TempHSU1_1.prproj”

which is not where I saved the Premiere project file. Is there a way to change this Source path before starting the encode? I also tried saving the project file into this location but still got the problems below.

If I try to “Add Premiere Pro” sequence within Media Encoder I get an error message that says “Dynamic Link Error: An Adobe Dynamic Link error occurred”.

Last week something happened to my computer and now I get an “Access Denied” error message if I try to open my D: drive. I’m pretty sure this is causing the problem and is not allowing Media Encoder to find the source files. I tried moving everything to my C: drive and I get the same problems.

So…..has anybody experienced this before or have an idea of whats going on. I realize that this isn’t really a problem with Premiere and is more of a problem with my computer but I’m hoping somebody might still be able to help me out with this issue.

Is it even worth it to try re-installing Premiere and/or Media Encoder? I kinda think not.

    Please help! Thanks in advance!

The origin of the problem could be that you removed an earlier version of Adobe Premiere Pro or Adobe Creative Suite on the same computer or you still have an earlier issue of Premiere installed on your computer
In such case, create a shortcut to the Premiere Pro executable file, rename the shortcut to Premiere, and move the shortcut to C:Program FilesCommon Files Adobe dynamiclink.
    1. Close all Adobe applications.
    2. In Windows Explorer, navigate to C:Program FilesAdobeAdobe Premiere Pro CS4. (If you installed Premiere Pro CS4 in a location other than the default of C:Program FilesAdobe, then navigate to your custom installation location.)
    3. Right-click on Adobe Premiere Pro.exe (which might appear without the .exe extension) and choose Create Shortcut.
    4. Rename the newly created shortcut to just Premiere.
Important: The name of the shortcut must be exactly Premiere with no other characters- without extension.
    5. Open a second Windows Explorer window, and navigate to C:Program FilesCommon FilesAdobedynamiclink.
    6. Move the Premiere shortcut that you created into the dynamiclink folder.

    Philippe, you are truly awesome!

Your solution seems to have worked because the Media Encoder queue has started without error and looks to be doing its job correctly.

Thank you very much for your wisdom!

I’m having the exact same problem, but the solution did not work for me. The project is small, so I’ll rebuild it in CS3 and hope that works.

Sorry to hear the solution isn’t working for you Michael.

Before I got the answer from Philippe I was considering re-installing CS4 to see if that might fix the problem. I’m not sure if it will help or not but it might be worth a try. It would be a bummer to have to keep doing everything in CS3.

Good luck and I hope you get it figured out. (I know how frustrating it is, ha ha)

Make sure that the shorcut name you created is exactly “Premiere” and not “Premiere.exe”

I had CS3 installed earlier and am on CS4 now. When exporting from Premiere CS4 time line (sequence) to Media and then Media Encoder, the Start Queue button would simply blink and nothing would happen. No error message. By process of elimination I traced it to a linking problem and your fix worked like a charm. I had installed CS4 with CS3 still in operation and I suspect that when I eventually used the CS3 Uninstall it zapped the link. BTW, that Uninstall still leaves a tremendour amount of CS3 material behind which should be cleaned out.

Unbelievable useful post. I was having a different problem and I tried doing the short cut thing and works great. I wonder why Adobe will not just do it for us. Adobe is great but has some very little things that we can only find in forums. Lets home that they just do it for us. Thanks a lot.

If you have any Red Giant Software plug-ins installed, try removing them systematically until your dynamic linking works again.

For me, Knoll Light Factory on my MAC system running CS4 suite of apps caused dynamic linking among apps to fail, which caused the Adobe Media Encoder not to work.

For others (on the Adobe forums), the Magic Bullet Suite was the culprit.

I informed Red Giant about this, and told them there are other CS4 users out there with the same problem, but since they couldn’t recreate the problem on their end, I don’t expect an “official” fix anytime soon.

I just want to add what a helpful post this was. Our IT department installed the CS4 bundle on my updated workstation, and added a couple of CS3 products after the CS4 install (instead of installing the CS3 items first), and it messed up a couple of things, the main one being the dynamic link functionality. I’m not blaming them for what happened (since they don’t normally work with production software), just pointing out what caused the problem.

Philippe’s suggestion completely fixed the problem I was having between Premiere Pro CS4 and Adobe Media Encoder. Easier than doing a complete reinstall.

The other reason I’m posting this is because it also fixed a problem I was having with the dynamic link functionality between Premiere Pro CS4 and After Effects CS4, which included Premiere crashing every time I clicked on the AE Comp that was added to my Premiere project window.

    Thanks Philippe for your knowledge.
