Try the Send to Squeeze template. It’ll either work (giving you a QuickTime ref you can use) or fail…meaning something else is wrong.

Dan,

The answer is the same for both questions.

The length of your video dictates the data rate. The higher the data rate=less compression.

The highest VBR MPEG-2 encode that permits you to have Audio on a fixed size disc under 9mbs.

So, 560/# min = data rate (using AC3/dolby audio).

I haven’t used 5 in a couple of years…

Premiere Pro handles ProRes just fine. Even as a capture from FCP7

Export Media? This used Adobe Media encoder to export to any format you like.

That will be the highest quality. If you ignore your previews (renders) when you export media, you’ll generate your rendered material directly in your output format – the best quality possible. If you choose to keep your previews (renders), you’ll have a faster workflow, but be dealing with renders of an intermediate codec.

Adobe doesn’t have their own independent post codec. If you truly want to work ‘pristine’ you could work uncompressed; realistically this means around you have to push nearly 30x the media, because HDV is that compressed. If you want to go apple sided, ProRes 422 (the generic ProRes) is probably enough. You won’t really get discernible differences if you were to use ProRes HQ or ProRes4444. Other decent alternatives are going to be Cineform and DNxHD.

Big fan of DamnVid – open source google project, I use it as “no conversion” and then use professional encoding tools to convert as needed.

I’m pretty comfortable/content on 10.7 – I had to do it (as everyone did) as a 10.6 upgrade – there are no installer disks, you had to get it from the Apple Store…which means 10.6.8 to get the apple store…then 10.7 as a download…then the updates to current version.

Running Adobe/Apple/Avid here…

Haven’t seen it.

Dupe that section into a separate project and see if it still has the same problem.

Old school workaround: “Export Media” out as ProRes and dump that to compressor.

You’d think this would be under share, right? Nope.

You’ll need at least a 2nd drive for this.

Go to the Project Library, drag the project to another drive…

You’ll get a dialog box that will ask if you want to dupe the project, the project + all referenced events….or the one you want: Duplicate project AND used clips only.

You don’t get the option to get handles – only the entire raw clip; I suspect this has to do with long gop codecs; I think this makes (for apple) media management easier/safer/more bulletproof in an age of sourcing from long gop codecs.
