  • FCP X- How do I copy/share only the media in a project?

I can’t seem to find the right “share” option

Can’t seem to track this down… I’ve gone through some raw footage and trying to do the old FCP7 “media manage” option where I make duplicate clips of just the sections of media I have put in my project … not the entire clip….
Can someone point me in the right direction?
When I try I get copies of the entire clip, not the section that I have used in the project… I don’t want handles either…
    Thanks,
    Vince

You’d think this would be under share, right? Nope.

You’ll need at least a 2nd drive for this.

Go to the Project Library, drag the project to another drive…

You’ll get a dialog box that will ask if you want to dupe the project, the project + all referenced events….or the one you want: Duplicate project AND used clips only.

You don’t get the option to get handles – only the entire raw clip; I suspect this has to do with long gop codecs; I think this makes (for apple) media management easier/safer/more bulletproof in an age of sourcing from long gop codecs.

    Thanks Jeff!

Wow- I was hoping not to pass on the entire raw clip…. no chance eh?
I realize I can lump the selects together and output as one file.

I also found I can choose a project and then “share” using compressor which will kick out each file separately, but haven’t investigate whether it outputs only what is in the project or the entire raw clip… Just a pain this way as it opens a window for each clip…

    Thanks,
    Vince
