So, technically, it’s mostly effects, but it’s also PAR/interpolation, color space, and the scaling for multicam.

Could you go off spec, that’s definitely up to you.

As I understand it, no, it doesn’t help non-effect driven playback. Now, I’m never 100% sure of this (and I hope Todd Kopriva from Adobe will chime in).

On the NVidia page (which the adobe page points to) – all the examples have an effect; except the multicam which is delivering 16+ streams. I’m not sure what’s going on there.

But if you’re getting an off spec card that supports CUDA, and you’re not doing effects? You should be fine, at least as I understand it.

Right click the Program monitor (or look under the wrench).

This reduces quality only during playback – the paused resolution is full quality.

I used to cut picture at very low quality; this is miles above it.

It’s similar to AE’s 1/2 or 1/4 res; but the moment you pause, full quality.

Sigh. Tried. Thought it worked (in a slightly different way), but it doesn’t seem to.

Meanwhile, it’s 3 key presses.

Copy, opt delete (ripple delete) then a Paste Insert.

You’ll need something like Quickkeys to build the first two as a single keypress.

Came to this late. Some great answers here.

One quick one:

[Jules bowman] “9) In FCP I have f5 set to lock all audio and f6 set to lock all video. This means if i only want the audio or the video off a clip it is easy to click the other key shortcut and close off what I don’t want.”

No keyboard shortcut – but shift click the lock on the timeline and it does all audio or video tracks.

Possibly a couple of things.

When you say ‘it asks you to render’ could you be a little more specific?

How old is your system? In fact, how much ram, what system do you have?

Have you tried adjusting the playback resolution?

If qt sees it, AE or PP should see it. The files do have the extension, right?

Import the file into AE. Click on it. What does it say in about the file?

I have no real idea, but the error points at the audio (as well as the strange errors like deleting audio tracks).

Try copy/pasting it to a new project and see what happens.

Make sure you have a backup.

Run disk utility.
Verify disk – make sure it passes.
Go to the partition tab.
Delete the lion partition (you did back up your drive, just in case, right?)
Drag the existing partition all the way out.
Hit apply.

That should work.
OSX will let you wipe out the 2nd partition on the drive.

If this blows up, John’s method is 100% safer. And you had that backup, right?

(I think it’ll work – I’ve done it before, but any time we screw around with partitions, we’re in dangerous territory.)
