What are you doing with Photoshop? I color-correct photos, work with text layers, and make multiple photo layers. Things like DVD box cover designs.
I haven’t had any problem using it for those purposes under Rosetta. Maybe I’m not using the “cloud render” filter enough or something but I’ve yet to run into any real-world problems with it.

Ah, I see.
It was removed because this is not a rumor site. It is a technical advice forum. The leadership here feels that such threads are not only clutter but that they may even upset a company if a secret actually IS revealed here. They just don’t want to take that risk considering that they have something to lose and nothing to gain.

Seriously, I enjoy Mac rumors a fair amount and I’ve read NOTHING an upgrade to the current Final Cut except that it might be at NAB. And, uh…that “rumor” is clearly just a guess based on the fact that NAB is coming up. There’s been nothing else to indicate that FCP 6 is around the corner. Maybe. Maybe not!
(There HAVE been rumors about Apple coming out with something else having to do with video, but…once again…that’s the entire rumor! Good luck guessing what it means!)

Do you have the entire production suite (FCP 5, DVD SP 4, Soundtrack Pro, Motion 2) bundle? I’m just checking because if you don’t have that, then the price to upgrade to it is very, very good right now:

So it’s a good chance to “catch up” if you’re behind in version numbers. You said that you ARE caught up, but I just wanted you to be totally certain of that.
Assuming that’s true, no, you do not need the universal version. If you think you’ll be buying an Intel Mac sometime soon then it’s worth it, but if you’re not there is no difference for you to get the universal version.
Most likely, by the time you buy an Intel computer you will already have moved on to Final Cut 6 which would be universal already. That’s probably most people’s plan around here.

=======As Simon said, there’s no reason to. Instal Tiger, then instal OS 9 on the same hard drive.

You’re probably fine with normal DV but I would suggest buying the more expensive stuff.
What machine are you using? Can you record full-sized DV cassettes? If so I’d suggest Panasonic AY-DV124MQ 124-min Full Size DV tapes. If you can only record on minis, they have the AY-DVM63AMQ 63 Minutes Mini DV tapes. They’re a bit more expensive than normal DV but they’re made a bit sturdier for mastering purposes. (Search bhphotovideo.com for those numbers.)
Stick with those lenghts. They make longer ones but they have to use a thinner tape to fit it in the case, which could affect long-term storage. DVCAM will certainly be “safer” but I think you can trust those tapes to be “safe enough” as long as the tapes are well-cared for (kept out of the sun, stored fully rewound, on their vertical edge, in a cool, dry place).

But to quickly run through some answers:
1) The SATA drives will be fine, and yes you’ll have to wipe them. You can only fit 2 drives in the case, however, which means you can only add one more. (There are people out there who sell solutions to cramming more in there…but I’d rather just buy an external enclosure and a PCI SATA card.)
2) Given the tightness of the case I wouldn’t worry about any other drives. (I’m pretty sure they won’t work anyway, but I’m not even going to check since you’re out of space.)
3) PCI-Express for the graphics card although I’m nearly certain that video cards are still sold as either PC or Mac versions. So you won’t be able to take anything with you here. At least it was that way with my G5, although it’s an older model. This is something to ask someone at the Apple store if you can as I can’t say for 100% that I’m right. Although if you have an AGP card, again like #2, I guess it doesn’t really matter.

The Final Cut speed control is so-so at best. If you have access to a compositing program like After Effects, use that for these shots instead.
But if you’re stuck with Final Cut, here’s the big secret: Stick with numbers that are “easy” for the computer.
So, for example, 25% 50% 200% 400% are all good. 98% or 212% are bad. For two examples; if the computer has to only erase every other frame (200%) or double every frame (50%) then Final Cut really has no problems. When you get into anything more complicated than that, though, it starts to break down a little.
