I am wondering whether or not to buy this upgrade as I am not using an intel dual core machine and I am unable to find any info on what if anything else they have changed for the Universal version other than the fact you can use it on the dual core………. I, like most people want to keep things up to date but am unsure if this particular ugrade or update is necessary. Any info or guidance is very much appreciated.

    g5 dual 2.5 ghz
    6.5 gig ram
latest decklink card and latest udates for final cut studio etc. all installed already.

    Thanks again 😀

Do you have the entire production suite (FCP 5, DVD SP 4, Soundtrack Pro, Motion 2) bundle? I’m just checking because if you don’t have that, then the price to upgrade to it is very, very good right now:

So it’s a good chance to “catch up” if you’re behind in version numbers. You said that you ARE caught up, but I just wanted you to be totally certain of that.

Assuming that’s true, no, you do not need the universal version. If you think you’ll be buying an Intel Mac sometime soon then it’s worth it, but if you’re not there is no difference for you to get the universal version.

Most likely, by the time you buy an Intel computer you will already have moved on to Final Cut 6 which would be universal already. That’s probably most people’s plan around here.
